She has her first show next week !!

Oh and not forgetting Phoenix after winning the Winter Novice Q at Bury Farm i let her have a break and we went out last week and was 2nd in the Foxhunter at Royal Leisure !

she is by Scolari ( who is Sandro Hit x De niro ) her dam was Rubenstein x Weltmeyer x

We have lots to do but it is so nice to have one that loves to work !!

She is seriously lovely, thought that from the first vids you put up of her. I love how sweetly she looks to be going, and well ridden too. Impressive paces, good luck with her.

thank you i am so pleased with her she really loves her job and tries which is so nice in a young horse !!

first outing next WEdnsday for the 4yo comp !

Agree with Oscar...lovely to see a baby being ridden like that. I just backed my almost 4yr old yesterday so after a few weeks of hacking, she will be getting some videos posted :-)

Lovely videos :-)

Hello, to buck the trend (a little), she is a nice mare going forwards with enthusiasm, BUT, the contact is really unsteady. Perhaps you could slow her down a tad and make sure your hand is really in tune with her mouth?

I understand what you are saying, but I back and train for dressage careers too and I try to never discourage forward movement that isn't uncontrolled. The contact is always going to be unsteady in a horse that is only just learning what it is all about. They are unmuscled, unbalanced and very babyish still, but allowing the forward enthusiasm to go undeterred at this early stage does, in my opinion make for a much more forward thinking horse further on in training.

I actually don't even care that the horse is in a contact at all for the first part of training. All I want is for them to go forward and be light to the aids. I think the OP is doing a smashing job :-)

Really lovely mare :) I like the fact that she is being ridden sympathetically with regards to the contact, letting her find her natural balance and with no forcing.

What a lovely, forward going, fluid horse! I don't have much experience with youngsters but to me she looks fine for her age and education. You are doing a great job of allowing her to go forward and she is very balanced for a 4 year old.

She looks lovely :-) I also like the forwards tendency and the not driving her into a fixed contact. She looks naturally balanced and fluid because of it. She is happy in the mouth, no grinding or mouth opening, I wouldn't worry one bit about the unsteady head at this point personally. Forwards riding with quiet hands always wins in my books, I like the overall picture a lot.

Smart girl and very well done to P on her successes. Pics needed of one of my favourite horses!

PS I'm guessing somewhere along the line you sold that saddle?

Of to the Welsh masters next month so will get lots of pics from there for you !!

yes i did x

Good luck with your one post vids when you got them its nice to see other youngsters x

To everyone else thank you about the comments on how she is ridden - I will admit it is not myself but my friend who has broken and ridden her from day one (as a SJ i am too scared to ruin her !! LOL)

Though with any young horse i have always made sure that they go forwards and not to worry about the contact as this will come they need to find their balance

i am sure in a few months we can then start making her slow down and wait but she is not strong enough to do this yet x

Is she 3 or 4, because it says on the video "2010 dressage mare."
Is she teething? She's snatching quite hard at the contact, which makes me wonder. She's a lovely looking mare and the rhythm is really nice.

no she is 2009 i got the date wrong !! so yes she is 3yo - 4yo in May

I have the dentist coming in April so she will get checked she lost a tooth just before Christmas and had some wolf teeth removed x

Erm, how is a horse snatching and bouncing off the rider's hands "happy in the mouth"? I in no way suggest restricting or forcing an outline, but it is possible to ride a young horse forwards and on a contact - more than possible; it is the purpose of education. I would be very concerned if any of my young horses went like the mare in this video and would either change the rider and/or investigate the cause. This is not correct.

She looks lovely, and you obviously ride well. If she were mine I would slow the trot at this stage, I think that would help her with her balance and be more steady in to the contact/ hand. I wouldn't worry about her being 'on the bit' at all.

But many roads lead to Rome and all that. :)

sorry, but I must admit I am inclined to agree with this. she isn't accepting the contact, imho. even when she keeps her head still, she is showing 'false bend' in her neck - the flexion is not at the poll but well behind it... she should be stretching forwards downwards more to the contact, no?

I must have missed the bit where Tinks81 asked for opinions on the rider of this mare...?

Me too !! she has been in work for 2 weeks i dont expect miracles or her to be perfect! She was tucking behind the contact last week so i know she was trying to ride her forwards so she would learn to pull her instead of giving that false on the contact look where she was overbeant and no contact at all - I guess that will take a while to come

Change it to "opinions - full stop" and "Like".

I've not watched the video but having seen the pictures on recent threads about 4yrs olds, amongst others, with people applauding horses that were not correct or "OTB", flexed at 3rd vertebrae, BTV, not engaged and working in false outlines, too weak to be doing what was asked of them or to work "properly" (hence false, btv outlines) I'm just wondering how the "HHO CR Massive" decide who to critise and who to let slip through the net?

It's one thing if CC, comments or advice is asked for and a totally different thing if it's not. If it's that hideous that you feel you *must* say something would a PM voicing these concerns not be more appropriate?

I do wonder why some posters on here continue to post given the stick they appear to get for no apparent reason.

I didn't say you did Kerilli.

I am all for constructive criticism when it is asked for but sometimes I don't understand why people have to start having a go when someone just posts an update on their horse. You wouldn't just walk up to the fence if you saw someone riding and start handing out unsolicited advice, would you? One thing if you see something inherently dangerous or cruel, but I don't believe that is the type of situation we are dealing with here now is it... ;) (Yes I know "it's the internet and everyone can say what they want" but I'm not sure this means every pic/video is a free for all to have a go as they like - but perhaps a good idea to save your top tips for someone who actually is asking for help/advice - plenty of those posts.)
