-5 tonight brrrr!!!!! what g rug are your in?

may be your first but it's not THE first;) http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=513009

perhaps it's just me, perhaps i just don't get as excited about rugging as the rest of you!! same as i don't get excited about what coats my kids have worn to school or what weight duvet i have on the bed;)

Dont bother to read or comment on it if it bothers you so much.
its also just folks making conversation in general, and its good to see such a diverse amount of options people use for their differing horses and circumstances, goes to show that folks are doing what they feel is right for them and theirs.

I don't mind these threads either, I find them quite interesting. Surely it's the horsey version of 'so, what are you wearing to go out tonight then?' :D

Yep that's what I thought. Fleece jumper, musto snugs and thermals and the fire and the central heatings on high, btw. Cant warm up after poohpicking in this weather!:) Its the coldest it's been this year I think.

Mines in a weatherbeeta under rug(not sure what weight they are),big, thick double layer fleece & a HW weatherbeeta rug(think thats 350g). he's a fully clipped TB.

mares in 300 hw stable and ive just put my 13.5 tog dovet on the bed and the blanket and the fleecey blanket.

mares only in a medium weight turn out in the day but its been upto 2 or 3 degrees but night it the same but minus xx

Its meant to go down to -10 with us!!
The sensitive Tb has 300g liner combo and 250g stable rug combo on with her stable booties!
My tbx welshx appy who is half clipped has just his 360g stable rug combo on
I put a rug on my exmoor for the first time tonight! (just a bib clip) just managed to squeeze her into her bright pink cooler! shes grown a fair bit since she last worn it :P

My fully clipped welshXTB type pony will be in his MW with no neck, the chaser clipped section A will be in a MW with a neck and then the apron clipped fine coated KWPN in a HW with a neck :) The rest of ours are in everything from 2X HWs to no rugs :)

Should we start donating rugs to the natives out on the moors and highlands? I feel really sorry for them. I mean I know they are not clipped or anything but it is really cold!!!!

Isn't it amazing how they all die in winter and in Spring there's so many of them that they have to be eaten by Italians!!!!

One of mine is just an unbelievably cold horse, I bought him in to ride yesterday he had been out in a 350 full neck outdoor with a 100g under rug and he was actually shivering, hair stuck up on end and just felt cold he was out with hay too. It took him till 20 mins into hack (he had a thermatex exercise sheet on) to stop dithering. So tonight he is in a 300g full neck stable rug with a 350g no neck stable rug over the top. I checked him before I left and he was warm but by no means hot...right wimp! Others are in about 450g with full necks and feel about right. All fully clipped.

Ive just snorted tea all over the place reading this! You two are hilarious :D

My hairy cob has had his LW on tonight for the first time this year and my oap has gone from a LW to a MW rug now.

My Welsh x who has a blanket clip has a MW and my project horse who is roughed off and living out is still naked but will probably have her LW on tomorrow.

Shettie cross, 2 CBBabies and welsh A naked..

Dutch WB in MWt full neck..

Poorly CB in nose to tail double Sherpa (head, neck, bum, chest, belly in double lined fleece) with MWt full neck TO over and leg wraps..

Mine live out and are wearing 400g full necks tonight and they are not "toasty" but are warm in their armpits. One is blanket clipped TB x welsh and the other a bib clipped ISH.

Give that it was -3 when I got there at 7.30pm I was surprised they were not cold under their MW rugs they had on during the day.

The Shetland cross however is out naked, like she spends all year.

They have hay in the field and free access to stables bedded with straw and haynets and are quite happy.

My 400g rugs only come out when it is freezing!!

Mine's in a 40g turnout although she is in at night. Earlier in the week I took pity on her and put on her Amigo medium weight. She refused to lie down and left half her haylage. She'd rather have no rug at all, but then she'd get as she's out during the day. Arabs can be quite hardy, seemingly.

Still fully clipped and still in her 300g. That's the most she'll have on and as soon as the temp gets a bit warmer, she'll be back in a 200g or a rain sheet/stable sheet if it gets above 5.

For ibble ;) - stable rug is a Joules, very pretty pattern, hw t/o is errrmm can't remember but it's maroon and blue. All other rugs are Amigo with a mix of colours including a Magenta no fill :O poor horse, no wonder she looks at me with indignation when she's waiting at the gate :D
