Now would I be a Kentish lass, or a lass of Kent?

A little horse, I don't think I'm allowed to describe, was sold by someone I know to a dealer.

It is a problem horse, but we did a lot of work on it and it did show signs of improvement! Unfortunatly, time/funds ran out.

Dealer accepted it was problem and accepted it needed work.

A couple of months later, friend gets a call from a very worried father whose children have just nearly been killed by horse. Apparently it was sold as ideal second pony. The advert turned up and horse is definitely doped, and possibly hobbled.

Told Father that he wouldn't be able to reschool it, so it needed to go.

Fast forward to last week and another call. Horse now on other side of country. Horse has now had 6 homes in 6 months, and is still in dire need of reschooling. New owner isn't clued up on how to do this, as once again it was sold as an ideal second horse.

Now okay, perhaps it shouldn't have left here alive, but it is a nice horse, just needs work. How on earth people can judge the poor thing when it has barely spent a month in each home is beyond me.

And the scruples behind the fact it is STILL being sold as an ideal second pony, when it needs to be sold as a project horse...

I'm so cross/upset/guilty. I, personally, love that horse. It is fun, responds well and has potential, if only it ends up in the right hands. But because people are so happy to dope it up, it's going to end up slaughtered.

I know, it's a fact of life, but how can these people sleep at night?

(((((hugs)))).
This post has made me realy sad. Noone seems to have given this poor horse a chance. Herbie was very insecure when he came to me as everyone has always given up on him and i thank god he found me or he would have endd up like this horse.
Is there no way you can get it back?
I also wonder how some people sleep at night and how they can treat a horse like that anyway.
I realy hope this horse finds a nice home soon poor thing.

Someone needs to take responsibilty here.

it needs to be shot.

Crikey.

Trouble is, who takes the responsibility? Unless OP is willing, or knows someone who is willing and able to buy it and give a chance then it will continue to be passed along.

Can you advise the current owner to sell it properly as a project? No doubt taking a massive price drop but then people really should be a bit more clued up when buying I think. Aggh.

Can of worms.

Makes my skin crawl!! My mare had been on 8 dealers yards in 6 months before I bought her as a first horse/hack for me the novice. Once she'd been fed well, had her teeth and back done and obvously started feeling well she turned into a real handfull and became very dangerous! To scared to do anything else, I took off her shoes and turned her out in 5 acres for the summer. Dr Green did the biz and my persistance helped too I guess and I have been sooooo lucky. I think she had been suffering in a lot of pain and now, a year down the road she is unrecognisable and she's an absolute dream horse of a lifetime.

Poor little fella needs help before he hurts someone and he ends up on that lorry! Can't you do something??? Please??

Have googled it, and it looks like it's with yet ANOTHER dealer. And it's advertised as "Ideal PC pony, hacks alone or in company" (it bolts, which is it's 'problem').

It also looks like someone has made some money off doping it, as it's now worth considerably more than it was 6 months ago, even though it tried killing it's last owner owner last weekend!

If I had the money, I'd buy it in a shot. It is a lovely horse, just needs an owner who knows what they're doing!

No doubt it'll have another owner next month :(

1200, think it was sold for 300. I know the dealer sold it for 300 because it was said how they never made any money on it.

Just looked at some of our photos and it has a scar that matches, so I'm pretty sure it's the right one! (it's a pretty ambigeous type of horse, but it has the same name, height, age and scar, so it's pretty convincing!).

Faye, I'll send you the horsemart link (it may be an old advert, I can't find a date on it)

The thing is that there's no such thing as a problem horse it's not the horse's fault. Mostd of the time it's the people who causeing all these's problems by beating the **** out of them!!!! The horse is only going to protecd it's self in the natural sp? way so bitting, kicking etc is the way it's going to show. It's such a shame that it's been patsd on so many time's it's just going to get worse as not going be able to trust people due to whats happered in the pastd!!

My boy was classd as a very problem horse he was far from that he was misunder stood by so many people include me at the very first couple of year's!! He had so many people give up on him so his trust was complety shatted so show it by anggress sp?? He was a nightmare! Now many falls later and years down the road we are a parter ship now and I wouldnt change him.

I cant belive this one being adv as a secord horse I do hope someone who is willing to take it on and is prepare to send time and a lot of patince to get it right.

O I was advice to have my boy shot now 10 years on i get the great satatfac sp??? when I see people who had said that to prove them complety wrong!! And doing all the things I was told I would never do!!!

Why shoot it when, with a chance, a little time and patience it could turn out good, perhaps in another sphere, whether it be ridden, driven or companion. Its not the pony's fault, it sounds like its been let down big time by previous owners. Unfortunately, it sounds as if it fell into the hands of unscrupulous dealers from the start.

Perhaps those in the know could catch up with the current owners and offer some guidance ... project horse seems more appropriate. I really hope things can be turned around for this very unfortunate pony.

Poor horse. yet another example of a horse suffering due to peoples ignorance. Horses like this dont stand a chance

The thing is that there would most likely be people out there willing to deal with his issues if he had been advertised properly from the start rather than being advertised as a second pony. But now he's probably even worse if people haven't known what they're doing, and now it's going to be harder to find the right person for him :(

It's such a shame that he didn't end up with the right person at the start, else things might have turned out so differently already. Keep us updated if you manage to get him fumanchu, i hope a knowlegeable home can put him on the right path.

I do disagree with saying 'shoot it' when you didn't know anything about it or what the problem was though, i find that a bit worrying. I agree with shooting trully dangerous horses. But i agree more with trying to find them a suitable home first when all they've had is numpties, they deserve a chance.

aw, that is sad. i went thru a similar thing with my other pony. i bought her as an ideal family pony/hack. her problem was insecurity and would rear if i tried to take here away from other horses. long story short - original owner bought her from riding stables, had her 4 yrs, no probs other than nervy. suddenly the rearing started, no reason, all checks done etc. they sold her as a companion pony as they gave up on her, having tried everything. they thought she was settled for life, but no. she was sold again to a dealer. who knew all her history, who then sold her to me, lying about her. to this day, i hve no idea how i managed to ride her out of their yard when i tried her out, but she did that day, so i was none the wiser. anyhow, 2 weeks after i got her, i attempted to take her out alone and wam bam, rearing spinning tantrum in middle of road. i did everything i could with her, and spent a fortune sorting her out. anyhow, after tracing her original owner, i realised i would never cure her rearing. so, i found her the ideal home - somewhere she would never need to hack alone. and a year later, she is well loved, and very happily settled. there is a home out there for every pony, its jst a case of finding the right match. i do hope your pony finds the right people, they all deserve a chance. no pony is born with problems, they are all human created.
