is bought in July 2006, it has been winning unaff dressage with high 60%s, been drag hunting lots and is a solid, 9 year old good looking irish horse.

Said horse needs constant exercise because he can be very hot headed and cheeky if not worked. He is absolutely NOT anyones ride and it takes time to gel with him. Owner decides she cannot have him for another winter because she cannot ride in the week.

Because horse is not straight forward she is happy to get back what she bought him for. One of the hunt staff had him for a couple of weeks earlier in the year to try (at a price tag of £4500) and she sent him back saying he was not the horse for the job of whipping in/field mastering.

Fast forward to now, horse has been hunting 3 times, all of a sudden, I am told this morning, that "if he goes out twice a week for the next month he can be sold for £8k"...

PLEASE save me

I laughed and said no way, not a lot is selling and although he IS a good hunter he isn't an £8k horse, maybe they could get £6k if someone who sees him hunting wants him off the field - he is not easy to *try* at home and is a different horse to the one that hunts. I was then told "You bought P for £6500 and she isn't a patch on X"

I was rather affronted by that TBH, and pointed out that actually she is a better horse - she is younger, sane, you can put anyone on her and they will ALL get something challenging to do (partoow gave her high praise), she is smart, she is not boring, she is an awesome hunter but also a saint to hack and is not quirky AND she is a mare with top class breeding... She may not go and win the Olympics but what price do you put on safety?

Sorry, just needed a bit of a rant really - if the horse in question is worth £8k of anyones money then he would have been sold last year, whilst winning dressage and drag hunting for more than £4200!

Or am I being silly?

No - please see my post below regarding a safe sane and balanced wb that is up for the same price and not selling...

She is better advertising for £5 and taking £4

Doubt he will sell though - not with all the sane horses on the market that are infront of him in the que to be sold.

You are completely right Weez!

Thats RUDE of them to say that their horse is that much better than yours! Even if they think it, they shouldn't be so blatent as to say it to you!
And tbh imho it sounds like they are way off the mark, both in that statement and the price they think they can get. People are such dreamers sometimes.
Taking on a horse that needs constant exercise needs a certain type of rider, and I would imagine that someone doing that level of riding would not expect to pay that much for essentially a good hunter? I'd imagine getting her money back would be more reasonable and expectation, especially if she hasn't kept up with his dressage - immediate question from me if I were viewing would be what his recent competition history is? Not last year/the year before....
Having said that I'd never get past the advert reading stage for something that price

He has done 1 dressage comp this year, with a different rider who had only ridden him a handful of times - she did a great job simply keeping him in the white boards and she got mid 60%s but wasn't placed. Other than that he has done a 4 fun riders.

Thats just daft..... who told her it's price would jump up by that much??.... I wouldnt pay 8k for a horse that wasnt sane at home no matter how good they were out hunting.....

I think they're on the moon tbh!

He is an absolutely lovely horse, and has lots of talent, but whats he been doing? Nothing! You can't ask 8k for a horse that at the moment is just a hunter, and its not even like he's totally safe and reliable.

Trouble is people are told there horse is worth this and that but its only worth what someone else will pay!
Id also ask what would you do out of season as it sounds does not sound a competition horse to me ?

I would not pay more than the 4500 for him, as you could probably get one a lot safer than him for that price. I cannot stand it when people over price the horses that aren't worth a mark on their selling price. But then again the majority of the population seem to be obsessed with money now.
I also think they were damn right rude for saying their horse is better then P, fram what I have seen and heard from your posts she sounds like a great little mare, who is ridable in all aspects and sane....how is a insane, quirky horse better than a more straightforward horse.
No wonder they have the wrong price tag, if they think their horse is better than what it is.

Sanity is valuable. I would be looking to challenge the horse to a hack alone, etc and if he messes about I'd be walking away. I'll pay 7k for a bit uglier horse who doesn't prance about tapdancing.

It sounds like a bit of a pain by all accounts. The dressage marks are good, but they are in no way exceptional?
I wouldn't expect someone to pay more than £3500 for a horse like this.....

They must be stark raving mad

I can see why you're cross Weezy, they've effectively insulted your horse in what they've said, but you have to learn to laugh about it

My friend is DESPERATE to know what I paid for Be because at the time I bought her he had his on the market. He thought that knowing what Be cost would give him an idea of pricing.... yes they are both branded grey warmbloods - but that's where the similarity ends

I was bordering on insulted at the time that he thought they were similar and worth the same...
crazy.gif
He also went on the deluded presumption that cause it has done a fair bit of hunting it must be worth a lot....

Let them pay to advertise him, have their time wasted by so called "potential buyers" and pay the cost of keeping him though winter - If they don't lower their price they'll still have him come the end of the season, and then they'll be even more stuck
