aghh rant ahead so beware :o
had a lesson today and the pony was being a git :( just being really argumentative about everything took ages to get him to be a bit nicer was completly ignoring me in canter  just a bit annoyed at him really beacuse he has been ridden in the fields for the past few days and has been working really nicely forwards off my leg and bending correctly transitions were as asked straight away walk to canter with no trot on both reins. I was really pleased with him yesterday and the day before so just think I need a kick up the backside and any suggestions to get him going in the arena as he does in the field??
sorry needed to let it out somewhere ben and jerries for any one who gets this far

*kick up the bum administered*

don't stress - they're only horses & not machines, can't expect them to be perfect every day :)

could well be that you get a little tense in the school, expecting him to play up, so he feels it and does play up?

they are annoying little so and sos at times aren't they!

He's a PONY FG sake...they are SUPPOSED to be annoying!:)
Sounds like he's got schoolitis - mine get this - so I only ride 3 times a week in the school and then not just flat but poles...jumps..loose schooling and the schoolitis has gone.

how old is the pony? is he finding the arena too small, is he unbalanced, are you a bit "hesitant" in the arena or on the lesson, any spooky hedges etc?

he is 6 and only becomes unbalanced occasionally and he can do the same exercises in the fields without a problem. I am not allowed to be hesitant :p instructor soon stops anyhting like that. There is a hege but he hasnt spooked at that for a long time
