I know this is a bit of an odd question but here goes:

I shipped my horse from overseas and I think she had an accident enroute.

She arrived with no fat, no muscle, nothing. All her muscles were tight. Around her anus was very hollow as if was being pulled in. I put this down to her having no fat and muscle tension problems.

8 months on and she's put on weight well though still not sound and I have had to have physio for her several times at the recommendation of the vet. Her back is still weak and i have been given exercises to do with her to try and strengthen her up and also release tight muscles.

However, one thing I think really is strange is that quite often her anus and the area around it looks like it has been pulled in as if something is pulling from the inside. On a good day this will be just by a centimetre but a bad day like today it's more like an inch or more! Doing her exercises usually helps but today it looks really bad.

Has anyone else had this? What can I do about it? Sink plunger? (yes I know not funny really). What is the cause do you think?

sounds like she has reared up and gone over backwards, classic 'back-end' symptoms..
what has your physio said about it? if she hasnt noticed it i would consider getting someone different out. Try a mctimmoney chiro instead

Yes the vet has seen her twice and the physio twice.

I wasn't worried about it initially as I thought it was all part of the whole being underweight and tight from the journey. Then I thought it was due to feeling the cold (she was from Cyprus). Since my post the other day I have taken to rugging her up very well (she was in a meduim weight one but the wind semed to be getting under it) and she does look like a different horse and the back end is improving. But if I have a heavyweight turnout at this time of the year, what am I going to do in winter? I have been trying to aclimatise her gradually and encourage better coat growth as she lost her winter coat in 2 weeks and now has a very short summer coat.

The two times the physio came were when there were alot of other problems going on. I have had a lot of muscle problems and digestion problems with this horse since bringing her to UK even though I had done alot of research and introduced her to turnout gradually. I guess the physio needs to come out again!
