Has anyone elses horse got endless amounts of energy?

Gin is now in 'boot camp' and is on her second day. Her hard feed has been cut right down and she is being lunged before being ridden.

I have never known a horse have such a paddy just because she doesnt want to go forward. If only it was that simple. She is quite happy to go forward and run but she isnt properly forward. as soon as you ask her to go forward and use herself she has a complete tantrum and turns herself inside out. This happens as soon as you apply the leg, she stops bunny hops, bronks, rears you name it she does it. All because she doesnt want to be in front of the leg and use her hindlegs. The arena was frozen this morning so didnt want to push her too far, think as soon as it defrosts I might have to be prepared to push her trhrough it and risk falling off

Have a lesson booked for friday so hopefully I will get some useful tips.

Hopefully she will have graduated by Sunday

Honey is feeling full of herself lately when i have been jumping her! she wants to play the rushing game, i say No and she has a tantrum!

have you had her back checked recently? its just it screams back problem to me, sorry.........

even if shes better after shes been lunged, its probably because shes warmed up and it dosent hurt so much once shes loosened up....

i think tis the time of year ... mines in a right mood at the moment .. had to cut her feed all together .. have you got much turn out ?

No, going to get her saddle checked next week as it could do with restuffing at the front.

TBH Im 95% certain its just naughtyness. Shes so highly strung and spooky and only does it at the scary side of the arena. She backs off my leg to spook and when made to go forward she has a paddy. She has also started to get bolshy on the ground, she goes through stages like this where she tests you and needs putting back in her place.

Our arena is very spooky down one side and as daft as it sounds when there is an east wind the horses go crazy.

Mine seems to have discovered some reserve of energy that he's been hiding a while - has regressed 10 years into being a youngster again!

But after a few months of him being a bit stiff and not his normal forward self, it feels fabulous to have my bouncy lively boy back again........even if it is rather embarrassing when out in public and having him perform airs above ground!!

Mine have now been in for over a month - they had turn out up till xmas now I think its safer to keep them in.
However, both of them have grown horns!
I use the walker in the morning for an hour, and they are worked upto an hour in the school or hacked.
They are both so fit, and have so much energy its madness!
Okay i can understand young snoop, but winston OMG different horse, he could do badminton twice atm!
Having to really sit tight on my lads atm - fun but sometimes i want my lazy boys back!
This time last year i was feeding winston oats, but this year NO WAY!
Chaff, SB, Ultimate Balancer and a handful of condidtioning cubes and thats it!

Ho hum....

that is spot on shadow last month! But i dont think it was a feed issue as we kept that the same in the end. Pm me if you want to know what we tried. The list is too boring to post on here for other poeple to read lol! Anyway we are back on track now! So there is hope
