Thank you everyone for all your kind and thoughtful comments - they really do mean a lot. :) xx

Maddie is 10, and has no breeding in her passport, it just says Welsh Sec D X, not even her parents names. :(

I am sad to hear about your friend's young horse Scats - it's not all that common. And sorry too for your loss Ob4h. xx

So Sorry to hear that you have lost Cassie, 13 is too young and having it happen so suddenly sounds like quite a shock on top of the grief. I loved seeing your updates about her, and as others have said you looked like a great partnership. I hope that you and Maddie settle in quickly together, she looks lovely and has a similar 'presence' to Cassie. Best wishes to you for a long and happy future with Maddie.

I have been around for a while, but don't post that often, so not sure who on here remembers me. I lost my beautiful Cassie a few weeks ago. It came completely out of the blue and she was just 13. She suddenly became very unwell and within 48 hours she was diagnosed with lymphoma, with no hope of a recovery, so she was pts straight away. She was the most amazing, sassy and incredible little mare, she was my absolute best friend and I adored her.

Literally the day after I lost Cassie, an advert popped up for another little bay mare just a few miles away. I really didn't feel ready to see her, but with my head ruling my heart, I did. She ticked all my boxes and sailed through the vetting. I am currently lurching between being excited about Maddie, but still devastated about Cassie. Cassie came into my life when I needed her, and I think Maddie has done the same. I shall be shedding tears for Cassie for months to come, but hopefully Maddie will help me keep putting one foot/hoof in front of the other. xxx

So sorry to hear about your lovely horse Cassie, life is very hard sometimes. I hope you have many years of fun to come with your new friend and you don't feel too sad or guilty moving on....

Sometimes it's very hard not to compare a new horse with an old but I sure you will get past this in time. Good luck.

So sorry to hear about Cassie, I lost a pony suddenly, through illness, in lockdown. It breaks your heart.
I hope Maddie helps to fill the gap.

Thank you again everyone. The shock has definitely been a huge factor - just a month earlier we were having a wonderful time at BD camp. I will be forever grateful we had that time away together - she loved going to parties!

I am so sorry you lost your horses too IrishMilo and Haniki - such a sad time for you both.

Maddie is staying at my trainer's yard for a month while we get to know each other, which means that I don't have to ride every day myself, so that takes the pressure off a little. She was such a good girl in our lesson today. There was a young horse being rather spooky/reactive in the indoor arena at the beginning, but Maddie just rolled her eyes and behaved perfectly. I may just have pushed her pointy toes medium trot button when some other people were watching. She obliged nicely!! ???

The only thing I know about her breeding is that she is part Welsh D. No parents' names in the passport. She's a pretty little thing though. xx

So very sorry to read about Cassie - what a beauty - and far, far too young to have had to leave.

Having said that, I am so pleased to see that you have Maddie! I first met her before she was backed (same yard as me at the time) and she is a really cracking little mare. I wish you much happiness and fun together :) x

So sorry about Cassie - she was a beauty and clearly very loved. 13 is no age at all - off to give mine extra hugs.

Newbie looks very sweet - she will never replace Cassie but I hope you have lots of fun with her and have a new rewarding chaper with her.

Very sorry to hear about Cassie - those pictures are beautiful and I think too many of us know how gutting it is to lose such a beloved horse far too soon.

Maddie looks lovely though and it sounds like you are being very sensible about not putting too much pressure on yourself. I hope she has a good mane for crying into when necessary, but mostly I hope that she will slowly but surely weedle her way into your heart and that you have many happy years together.
