We hack for hours and go for miles routinely and have done since I bought her in July 2005.

Today I hacked along a route I've done over 100 times. So how come, for whatever reason, I was suddenly grabbed by the urge to canter along the grass verges? I have never done that before. Long straight country road, on the flat. We just cantered the entire length of the grass verge, stopping only when the grass was divided by driveways/gate holes.

What a blast!

I know what you mean. Alot of ours are really narrow or banked. This one is really quite wide, straight and flat. Best of all there are only a few houses along the lane but no shops and off licences etc. nearby, so thankfully not much in the way of rubbish is evident along it.

It was a nice steady canter, honestly!

I was grinning but I'm sure the car drivers thought I was manic!

The only one that was good for cantering on was fenced off some years ago, i was so dissapointed (although it was prob because people kept cantering on it!!!)

Do occasionally sneak onto the edge of a field though to have a canter

Eeeek! You risk the wrath of miserable farmers. I should know, I married one and have an even worse one as a father in law!

I'm still waiting for the gate to be opened into the one field they let me have a blast in over winter. The cows have been winter housed for four weeks now, but the gate off the road is still padlocked shut!
