Are we trying to prove that the ponies are expensive or the ponies are too cheap??? Or they would make more for meat or less than expected for meat?

I think there is a lot of info to take away
1. I did not know the current UK horsemeat price--now I do
2. I did not know the 'dressed weight' was classed as two thirds live weight
3. It makes it easier for sellers to set a reserve at auction--last resort for most people but in the current economic climate..............
4. At those prices in UK it would not make economic sense for traders to try to export on the hoof for meat even if the prices in France are higher.

Minimum values for export from DEFRA
Ponies
If you want to take a pony abroad then you have to prove it is worth more than a certain value depending on its height, or that it is travelling to compete, due to the ban on live exports for meat.

Ponies 12hh to 14.2hh - £300, under 12hh - £220 and Shetlands up to 10.2hh - £145.

indeed it does...

food for thought....28 animals were there from a riding school that had closed down..they were all elderly, never been off the RS so never hels a passport...all were there because of the new badly thought out passport regs

as were semi feral types who are worth less than the cost to chip and passport them...

sh1t really.
 
sorry to be a bit dim JM but what are the new passport regs??? do they affect the avergae horse owner or just abbatoirs??

I find it very sad that all those RS ponies were there, what a damn shame when if they'd been passported they could have found homes, maybe.

I do like the little bay, who is he by???
