Am totally fed up with my horse so deciding whether to sell. If I do sell will probably not replace him as have really had enough.

So he is 17hh 7/8ths TB fantastic looking horse - moves very well and straight. Wins dressage with scores of 72%. Excellent to box shoe and clip. Fabulous hunter will cross any country and the biggest of hedges. Evented up to novice level, BSJA winnings and done NC. He has the potential to go a lot further with a decent rider as he finds it easy. He is brilliant in traffic I regularly hack him up A38 and over Motorway bridges. He does not do anything nasty and is a very sweet horse but....

He is incredibly spooky SJ and needs a lot of work. He is not a horse you can leave in the field for 2 weeks and expect to go clear on. His SJ is lousy but that could be me. He can SJ well but at the moment it is not happening. So what do you think he is worth.

No stupid prices please I would actually want to sell him not just look at him in adverts not being sold.

Lec - any pics so we can have a look at how he is put together. I find it hard to put a price on something I haven't seen. Sounds to me like the ideal home would be for someone that enjoys a bit of dressage but would hunt him over winter. Something that crosses any country, safe to hack and can pull dressage scores like that out of the bag is a pretty desirable horse I'd say. Not everyone wants to SJ

Sorry to hear it hasn't been working out for you though.

I'd advertise at £6k ono.... Has he any BD points/BSJA money/BE points?

If you desperately wanted more for him it might be worth sticking him with a pro for a couple of weeks, or even one that would just ride him at events for you, but with the calendar in the disarray it is you might still have him in June....

Been placed at all levels BE intro & PN just not novice yet!

Has BSJA winnings of £55. No BD points as not a member just done unaff.

I think I would rather send him to a pro than sell for that. I had a pretty realistic price in my head but not that low.

I know a pro would go out and win tomorrow on him so maybe that is what I need to do.

£6k you must be seriously joking! Tigers eye how can you say that when you sold Betsy for £5k and she had only done a few Brit Novices? I think £8k minimum. The horse has a super cross country record with many Novice clears, he can move well and he will hunt all day- the showjumping will come with time and education.

LEC please do NOT give up! Goddamit I will personally drop a good horse of in your stable for you to event once you have sold R.

Aren't you doing him a bit of a disservice saying he doesn't SJ lec??? He isn't THAT bad
crazy.gif
I have seen a lot worse than him for sure!

I think you will get away with saying he is 16.3hh BTW.

As for price, I just don't know - I really like him, but I am just not good at pricing TBs or eventers - I am finding eventers rather expensive though!

I think realistically £7500 - if he doesnt show jump then its always dodgy as eventing does bear alot of weight on the SJumping.
But then there are always people willing to pay upto £9000 for a hunter - at 17h he'd make an ideal field-masters horse or hunt horse for any man.
Be wary of sending him to a proffesional, it is often very difficult to sell a horse if theyve done well for a proffesional as unintentionally alot can be masked by a pro (for example the SJumping problems) and any one who isnt a pro can be nervous of this.
So thats my advice! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thats very sad Lec, have you just lost your heart where eventing is concerned or horses in general?

It's a shame he isn't a winsy bit smaller, my girls are both still looking

I said 6k as lec said she'd rather not look at ads of him not selling
wink.gif
. I had to advertise B twice to get my 5k, plus she was younger, a more user-friendly height, and hadn't got a blotted copy-book if you will.

I think whoever said advertise him as a hunter might have the best idea. If he was advertised as an excellent hunter, with some other strings to his bow, that would probably work best, rather than as an eventer with a question mark over rideability (for want of a better word).

I do hope I haven't hurt anyone's feelings. It really wasn't my intention.

I am sorry to hear this Lec.
Why dont you just take a year out and do something else? showing or dressage or something?
Try your hand at something different.
I didnt think i would enjoy dressage but I am. You have a horse who is obviously capable and you are more than likely to win money too
smile.gif
with scores of 70%+

I do know how you feel tho, I lost heart and took a year out. Now back enjoying my horses.

Personally I would say as hes a great hunter/dressage/show horse he'd fetch around £8k if you want a quick sale.

Im going on what i paid for winston he'd won at PN and dressage and hunted but was a year younger than the Yak, he was also very careful sjing - his problem in the end was ME!
frown.gif
but like i say, took the year out and came back fighting

You do this sport for fun, it has to be fun.

Vxx

Well if the prices on the websites are to be believed he is worth around £7500 at least. His biggest disadvantage is being 17 hh, can't you shrink him an inch?
He's a stunning looking horse who should win WH at County Level unless he's got loads of scars etc, and I would write a glowing ad and try him at that price.
Put something like Ideal Leics hunter who also does dressage! ps shhhh very quietly try h'mart.

Just checked out his record[ as his name was on the video] and his show jumping is really poor.Sorry.
Why don't you try pure dressage ,I expect you have worked hard on his show jumping but if he is not careful then he is going to stuggle to compete in eventing ,sorry, shame.Or he would he a fabulous hunter but realisticly ,looking at his record I think around £5000

YOU ARE NOT TO SELL HIM!!!!

Ditto - take some time off eventing if your heart's not in it and do some WHs and dressage over the summer and if you still want to sell him then sell him later in the year as a stonking hunter who can also BD/BE.

Don't sell him.

Just have a few lessons with a proper Show Jumper and not an eventer.

When you get there on the right stride he is careful and I've got photos of him really trying not to touch a fence.

i just sold a 9 year old horse who had placings at intro, done well in dressage and always celar xc at PN- her show jumping was far weaker than what your horse shows in that video and i sold her for £7k just before christmas to the first people to see her after 2 weeks......with no tack included, although she was impeccably behaved and natured

I have looked back at the videos of last year and though his record does not look great he is a horse who is on the whole careful but needs to be right. There has to be a solution somewhere I just have not hit on it yet.

I would not sell for £5k he is a class horse and worth far more than that as he is a very sane horse. An ugly donkey who is as bombproof as him will cost that much money and yet will not take you safely round novice xc let alone school round intermediate.

In my mind I had £8k as he would whip in over any country and you could sit anyone on him to hunt as he is not strong. I have entered a county WH class so will see what happens. I have always wanted to point to point so would rather hang on to him to do that than sell for £5k. I have quit my job and have been offered consultancy work so will have more time and will try and work something out. I would rather be depressed than out of pocket!
crazy.gif

lec i would say 8K anyway....i have not seen your horses record but i mean it really cant b much worse than my old mares if at all!

i thought i wqas cheejy putting 7k on mine but as i say her dressage was good, she was bomproof, never had soundness problems and her xc was always clear and she didn really really well.

I agree with DD stop xc and hunting him and get some jumping in with a decent trainer.

SJers and eventers idea of riding into a fence is so different. I haven't watched the clips but I bet he just flattens a bit if you're on a long un. My horse loves his xc and never has a problem so I avoid it in between events and stick to sj to keep his jump nice and round.

But you haven't seen my dressage (bloody awful) so I'll quit with the advice now
grin.gif

Ok so I've now watched the vids and have to say he's a lovely chap..... I'd kill for dressage like that. But again if I were to speak like a true sj I would say, get a martingale on it and hold it into the bottom of the fence, get him using his shoulder a little more.

I certainly wouldn't sell him just yet as he's seems so genuine when there's so many that'll slat u in the mud.
smile.gif

As a pure eventer I don't think he'd sell for 8K, however he obviously has many other strengths. I think you'd get your 8K if you marketted him as a hunter who also will dressage and event. Definitely get him out to some WH's as that also adds another dimension.
