Hi guys,

Appreciate your thoughts on the following mare:

14.1
11 years old
strawberry roan
Welsh c x d (slightly more C so has quite a fine head and is very fine in the leg)
Hunted with a 10 year old girl
Loves to jump and will look after rider (I've jumped 3ft with ease with her but has alot more scope!)
Flatwork ok, although could do with more schooling
Snaffle mouthed
Hacks in company but can be 'looky' on her own - needs a rider that isn't scared to smack her bum and send her forward!
Would be bolshy if not handled firmly although in the right hands is fine
Good to shoe and box, clipping is ok but does have something to say about it

Basically she's a jumping pony and was born to jump....would come with a full wardrobe.

Potentally a very nice RC pony who would do well at WH pony and possible affiliate.

As mentioned she can be slightly pushy on the ground (as all cobs can be) but does look after her rider (ie not a bucker/rearer or bolter)

What do you think?

Thanks in advance.

Really? I wouldn't sell her to a kid though as she is a typical pony! haha....very willing under saddle but has been known to lock her neck and bugger off up the field on occasion....although I guess that anyone who knows ponies knows that they do things like that?

Not much of an expert but sounds nice.. i want

I could be way out but yes is she has scope, can hunt, is snaffle mouthed etc then I don't see why not.

Someone will probably say way less now but hey ho!

I guess so! I should add that she's helped my confidence no end after being scared stupid by two silly TB's....she has spirit and fizz but is safe which in my world is an ideal horse!

just made me lol when you say you wouldnt sell her to a kid...... only because I always say I am not sure if I could sell Frank to a kid....... despite the fact that the girl who had him when we was 8-12 was 11 when she got him and there was nothing off her at all...... I've seen the pics!

£3000 max - how fast is she against the clock? I had a super pony for sale before Christmas, wasnt fast against the clock but 100% safe, gem to handle, went out and won her first 2 prelims, was very quiet, not marish, had full competition record (showing) hunted etc wouldnt barge/run off etc and got £2950 for her...think in the current climate that is realistic.

I have one for sale exactly the same description but a grey connie 7yo, I have him up for OIRO £3500 and have had loads of calls for him, however like yours I wont sell him to a child, and have not shown him to anyone yet as none of the people ringing have been suitable. I am prepared to take around the 3 mark for him, but no less as he is the most brilliant all round pony ridden, and if he was an angel on the ground would be a lot more.

The right home will come along for him, and he has only been advertised a week.

She is very fast - you just sit and point literally so would be a great pony for a teenager who wanted to go places.

Well, if you get her a competition record (as in placings unaffiliated/get a good pilot and take her clear around JBN etc) then you could probably ask £4k for her and take £3800, depending on the placings - you could obviously ask more if the mare is winning at JBSJA than if it is winning at 2"3.

People just wont pay because they are told horses "will" they want to see proof etc. Jumping consistent double clears at junior BSJA as well as being placed at local level will of course ramp up the price, but at 11 people will want to see proof rather than when you have a young horse and can sell based on potential.

Have you jumped a course with bright fillers/water trays etc...what is she like over a bit more of a technical track?

If you want more £££ for her, I would find yourself a kid, get the pony out jumping for the rest of the indoor season, and see where you get to. If pony jumps consistent double clears at local level and is in the ribbons then sell it as such but I personally hate calling up ads for people who are charging a price for something they think "will" but hasnt, and tend to think, especially at 11 years old, if I am going over the £3.5k mark I want a history.

Cant you borrow L's little one and stick her on top? I am sure pony will be fine if a 10 year old has hunted it?

I have sold a few similar ones on behalf of people in the past year.... details below so you get an idea.

14.1hh irish coloured, rising 5 years old, jumping consistent double clears at 2"3-2"6 local level, always in the ribbons. Placed at only 3 dressage outings at prelim. Hunted and will go all day. Great mover with potential to show. Snaffle mouth at all times, ridden by 9 year old. £3750

14.2hh 9 year old mare, has jumped clear JBN in past with money on card, not novice ride but 100% safe. Hunted, competed in dressage with current adult rider and scored above over 60% on first two outings. Established lateral work (changes etc) snaffle mothed. Nervous in stable and needed calm consistent owner. Home more important than price - I sold her for £2500, realistically she was worth £3,500 as hadnt competed for a while.

14.1hh 7 year Welsh section C mare. Placed at PUK championships 2 years running. Fantastic breeding. Ridden in snaffle at all times, jumping courses confidently. Good and safe to hack, handle etc. Ridden by very nervous teenager. Good first pony for small teen or second pony for competent child. £2950

Maybe my ponies are too cheap though!!!
