Old fashioned now but you cannot beat an Anglo Arab for trainability toughness and temperament. A welsh tb cross is another old fashioned but tough breed and to be honest any british mountain and moorland you like the look of might not be the height but will make up for it in versatility but as others have said it might be better to kis a few frogs before finding the princess as I also prefer mares for loyalty and the fifth leg to look after me

I’m a big fan of mares, but sadly wouldn’t work in our current setup.

Another PRE lover here, but I agree that they aren't everyone's cup of tea. The movement will feel small and flat after your warmbloods and the training challenges are completely different, but if they have been well started they are incredibly human-friendly and really look after their riders. All mine have been brilliant hacks, easy to travel and take out alone, and willing to turn their hooves to anything.

My East England geography is terrible but Classic Spanish Horses in Essex is worth a look if it's not too far from you - they source horses from the trainer who trained all my PREs. I've ridden numerous horses from his yard and they are all confident, happy and safe. The 'Classic' horses aren't flashy dressage types but all look like really lovely types, and she jumps / hacks / competes them before selling on. I should add that I don't know the lady who runs it but I've heard good things and she posts excellent sales videos on her FB page!

Thank you so much, I’ve just taken a look and am already in love with one of them. I’m stuck in meetings so have just pinged her a text to see if he’s still available and if I can give her a call as soon as I can.

Definitely not impatiently waiting to hear back on whether the one that caught my eye is still available ? Wishing I’d waited til after my meeting and just called instead but I got over-excited! Really hope I hear back soon otherwise I’ll call them in the morning.

Weirdly I’ve just heard back that he’s no longer available and then found someone else has posted an advert for the same horse on horsemart 6hrs ago ??‍♀️ I’ll contact the person with the new advert in the morning and try and find out what the story is.

It’s all really weird, original seller has said he’s unavailable now but that they have two 17hh boys that have just come in, neither that really fit my requirements despite their size. Then I saw the horse I had liked has been advertised yesterday by someone on a different number so I queried it with the original seller and just got radio silence. I’ve left a message for the new seller but he’s being sold for significantly less than I’d expect so I’m wondering if it’s a scam and they’ve stolen the original sellers pics.

Ah well, I’ll keep looking and hope something crops up soon.

Er no I am resisting atm .
I am trying to be sensible I am not riding atm which makes it hard for my freelancer to get through all the horses .
If it was this time next month I would go down for sure ( I can ride again from mid Jan) so even if getting on a four year old was not possible I could ride my others .
I also have a busy week next week with the building project .
Trying hard to be sensible once I would have got up at three this morning and I would have been trying him now getting older is no fun .

Was that the Classic Spanish Horses one or someone else? Very odd...

Yup, I’m honestly surprised as they have rave reviews and genuinely looked to have exactly what I’ve been looking for, but based on the initial experience I’ve had I’m now a little wary.

Initially I assumed she’d just decided to keep him, but the other ad and lack of clarity just seems weird, as does the price point on the horsemart ad.

Quick update, assuming he’s not snapped up beforehand I have a viewing on Saturday ?

It is the same horse but different seller, all explained and makes sense. Still sounds ideal, perhaps a smidge greener than original ad suggested but not unexpected given his age/experience to date and still totally fits the criteria.

It does all sound a little odd but like you say, the reviews are good so hopefully all above board! Good luck for the viewing :)

Cobx - we have a cob x new forest who has been an absolute dream. At six, he carries a novice adult and happily goes with the flow as they learn more and get more experienced. You can put a beginner on him under supervision and he will plod along and look after them - yet if asked he will switch the power on and dressage like a pro with lovely movement and a real love for the sport. So basically, a fun safe horse who will compete or pootle along as required!

Quick update, we went to see the one I liked the look of yesterday. Very sweet chap but suspect his contact issues may be more than greenness. He did eventually settle and go quite sweetly and if he were cheaper I’d be tempted to take a punt, but as he is I think he’s probably more of a project than I’m after.

Off to see a luso boy on weds who sounds like he could be quite fun.
