It occurred to me tonight that I had promised to do a quick update on Islay - so here it is - not very exciting I know, but I am absolutely delighted so you get to hear it anyway
She took a few days to recover fully after having her remaining teeth taken out, but she is coping with absolutely no problems with having no teeth at all! Don't ask me how, but she eats nearly as quickly as she used to do.... kibble or raw.... She is on 2 meals a day now, at her last weigh-in she had put on nearly 0.5kg so I am really really pleased - she will be weighed again on Friday when I take Amy to have her stitches taken out.
Islay was started on Cardalis (an ACEI and a diuretic) a week ago - I didn't go for an ECG in the end as I wasn't convinced it was necessary at this stage, but my vet agreed that we would try medication as a trial. I've noticed a marked improvement in her behaviour on dog walks
I thought at first it might be wishful thinking/a placebo effect, but my mum (who has lots of experience) has said that you should see a difference within a week of them going on heart medication so I am hoping that is it. She is keeping up really well now and is a lot more interested in going exploring rather than trudging behind at my heels.
So all in all, I am feeling incredibly positive that Islay is going to be around for years to come
Amy has been fabulous, her wound has never been a problem for her and is healing really well, she goes back on Friday to have the two stitches out but to be honest she has barely noticed them at all and is raring to go off the lead again.
I have bought my vets chocolates for Christmas, but really I think they should be buying me chocs instead
