A youngster i recently bought who was very poor and underweight got ringworm about 3 weeks after getting him and has passed it on to the other 5 horses at my yard. Its not a huge deal as its my sister, my mum and a friends horses and they will not leave the ward until they are all clear, i got the treatment from the vet and my youngster is now clear, however the other horses are still being treated. As they all have it and no other horses will be coming to our yard do i need to de infect everything? stables, brushes etc? and once they are all clear of it could it be caught again?

When our horses caught it a few years ago we got some treatment from the Vets which was mixed with water in a bucket. Horses were washed down in it and so was all their tack, brushes, the stable, especially woodwork - apparently it can live in that for years. All rugs had to be washed - properly including turnouts. It was a mammoth task but we did eradicate it. Google it and see if there are any other suggestions, as I said it was around 8yrs ago. Awful thing to clear up and deal with.

Majority of vets will say vinegar does not work because treatment would do them out of sales!

I learned it many years ago when I had ringworm on my arm after moving calves. I was given some vinegar to rub on it and did so. A couple of hours later I did the same and it was gone the next morning.

When we had an outbreak at a yard I was working in the vet gave stuff to put in the horses feed. The ones I treated with vinegar were clear way before the others.

They can catch it again. I don't know about vinegar, but spraying/washing everything - walls included - in Jeyes fluid does work

Hang some holly in the shed- believe me it DOES work -is not just an old folks tale. We do it.
Ringworm can just occur-doesn't have to be passed by animal to animal contact. They used to say that sunlight will kill it.
You can try Bactakil from Osmonds.Strong stuff but is good.
