A Safe Ring Feeder for Horses......

I don't think I'd like a metal one with tombstone bits, I'd have visions of neds getting caught up somehow. I use tractor tyres in the field, they're handy cos you can move them and keep them far enough apart to stop arguments.
I have a hay hutch too, but that didn't work with one very dominant horse in the field who wouldn't let the others near it, so the two warmbloods have inherited it, although I have to use it with the lid off cos they can't get their big heads in the holes in the sides!

If you're looking for a safe bale feeder, this might fit the bill.

they are suppopsed to be fab however the price tag puts me off it. i have a metal sheep ring feeder (cost about £100) and my horses have no problems with it, because of its size when the bale of haylage is nearly finished they can get to the scraps on the floor.

after what happened to my little welshie this week, i'd bet a pony could/would get it's head in the "tombstone".

No idea, sorry. I have never used one.

I have foals, so I wouldn't personally use anything the daft beggars could stick their heads through or otherwise knacker themselves in, on or through. They seem to manage that quite well enough as it is.

My feeders are 4 poles banged in the ground with oak planking fixed to them. They are about 18" high and 6' square- ish. The foals nest in them. They can't be moved which is a disadvantage, but, on the other hand they cost me nothing but my time, rather than several hundred dollars.
