I have not ridden Blue - except for round the field a couple of times - for 6 years, due to him being 22, 14hh and previously had laminitis (I'm 5ft6 and 10 1/4stone) but today i just randomly decided i wanted to:)

It was amazing! He had his ears pricked and nuzzled at me when i brought his bridle out and stood stock still while my Mum gave me a leg up despite a very sensitive sore on his withers. He doesn't even stand still for the young girls who ride him!! (btw I rode him bareback and have just had the vet out for the sore it's bieng treated and i made sure i kept my hands well away.)

Anyway I was keeping a close eye on him to make sure he was comfortable but I don't thinki needed to worry!!! :) :) he marched down the road, ears pricked and when i nudged him for trot just to see what he would do he went straight forward at the lightest touch and no struggles :)

Mum said he looked so happy and i know this sounds really silly please don't think i'm too much of a weirdo :o but it as though he was happy that he was giving something back to me after all the years and that i was riding him again

I'm sorry for going on about my self I have just had such a big smile on my face all day :D

Can i offer you all cupcakes and a lunchtime cocktail :D xx

Aww, that's fab :)
Not surprised you're so delighted! Sounds like he was really happy too - some of them just love to work with their owners, be it on the ground or under saddle so sounds like it was as much of a treat for him as it was for you.

Given his age/condition/size and yours what about long reining him? Give him something to do with you but still really careful. Sounds as though he'd enjoy 'working' for you. :-)

Thank you for your suggestion :) i do long rein him and walk him out afew times a week, I do know im too big for him rwally but all i want is once maybe twice a week to potter round the roads (if we go for any kind of distance i would straight away get off and walk most of it) and if we do get round to a lesson will only be a short one with a tiny bit of trot - more for me than him!! :)

He is amazing but he is the type to show me if he was not happy in anyway and i will be watching like a hawk to make sure he is content =.

its fab to hear posts like this, where you enjoy toddling about with a slightly older horse and how he obviously loves his work.

Thank you :) I love love love walking him out and taking care of him but it was amazing just to hop on and just have an amble, or it actually turned into a bit of a march tho :o:D But after all the amazing years he really doesn't owe me a thing so any probs at all or when he has his fornightly massage any tension is noticed i will be very very happy to go back to normal :)
