I had one of those weekends where the horsey gods smile and give you those highs which mean you will always keep going no matter how hard it gets.

We didn't go out to the biggest shows, but had such a wonderful time that I'm honestly feeling on top of the world for once!

Firstly little baby Skylla.
She was bought as my next horse, no pre-determined ideas but will hopefully make a useful sort and turn her hoof to BD at some point. As Topaz is the silliest wotsit known to man, Skylla is having a very thorough education so that she's been there seen that and hopefully know it wont eat her :o. With this in mind she's done a very small amount of in-hand showing this year, well erm three shows to be exact, and she was foot perfect at all of them so we've not really thought it needed to keep taking her out. However the weekend just gone was week 2 of the North West Championships at Croft Top. Anyone in the area will know this show is quite a big deal and has a fab atmosphere, and if you get to the evening performance then its the full works, spot lights, crowds, cheering, music, etc, etc. So despite Skylla starting to get very tall all of a sudden and well I'm a shorty I thought we'd give it a go!

She was a star, didn't look at anything, was very polite, didn't get herself upset by anything though did get a little bored in the lineup and thought digging was an excellent was of keeping herself amused. Was a slight cheat as there was only 11 in the class so we all went through to the evening performace, but I was very pleased with her as a none show horse. She hasn't been produced as a show horse so is distinctly fluffy and gangly looking...

What Skylla thought about all the fuss:

Took her home, lycra'd her up :D and then came back at 7pm to see what she thought of the 'full on' show experiance! Well typical Skylla she didn't care, slightly more excited so trotted out better, got bored again in the line-up so sucked on my fingers this time to amuse herself ;). Didn't even care when a horse threw themselves on the floor behind her . So I was feeling my job was done and what a clever little sausage she is, when we were called in 6th! Squee bless her, she was a little confused why she should leave the others and stand on her own :D, but again was very unfussed by the cheering :D.

Then as our weekend hadn't quite been busy enough so far and as I love early starts after a late night, we went to Cockshot chasing Winter regional points!
For reasons only Topaz knows we were very bucky? I think she's just anticipating flying changes as she started it when I asked for counter canter, but then it did progress to if in doubt put a buck in, asides from that she was almost relaxed! Could have been more on the aids but we'll take relaxed for now.
I however seemed incapable of keeping my reins short, especially in the elementary and almost went wrong again, (E53 you are my nemesis!). So with all the bucking (though Topaz was kind enough to keep the lid on them mostly in the tests) and randomly long reins I was blown away to score 68% in the novice and win overall and then score 67% in the elementary and tie for overall first!!!! Our PB at elementary and we won actual prize money.

See topaz you can do it really, but I think she just didn't want baby pony showing her up :D.

:D Thanks, yes will be holding onto this weekend when its cold and wet and I'm knee deep in mud!

Fabulous! Well done :D

Thanks :D

Well done! What a weekend! Remind yourself of this when we are paddling through snow and slipping on ice in a few weeks :p

;) haha yes I will be holding onto these memories!

lovely stuff, well done.

What showing class was Skyla in?

Thanks :), we were in the 3 year old class, quite surprised there weren't more in it to be honest!

Well done! Doing well is always the best 'up yours' to any critics (talking about the mean judge from your last report ;))

Did you try keeping your legs on more? Whatever you did obviously worked :)

Thank you so proud of them both!

Haha I did get a comment that our rein back lacked purpose so there may be a residual doubt from me there, but yes always fab to be able to pick yourself back up and say ya boo to you :D.

The main difference was that Topaz was relaxed, but I did really try and keep it all forward! Think that may have been where the long reins thing came from, but definitely a step in the right direction! Hopefully we can carry on building on it and keeping the confidence up :).

Well massive well done.

Topaz is one of my fav hho horses and love reading about your adventures.

I'm hoping to be out competing my hot as heck chap next year so may well be sharing the ups and downs (hopefully not falling off!) reports ;)

Aww thank you, she is such a lovely horse to have around. Infuriating with her rediculousness at times but such a sweetie it's always forgiven!

Ah I'm sure it will be many ups! Though as someone who spent two years needing a team of people to be able to take topaz out, get her tacked up and hold her down whilst I got on, and then retrieve that black dot in the distance whilst I got back up ;), I have every sympathy for any lows you may encounter!
I look forward to your reports, safety in numbers and all that :D.

I always love your reports - well done for such a fab weekend! Are you all qualified for the Winter Regionals now?

:) thank you, no we need five more points, with one from a qualifying class! We're out doing two elementary classes at the weekend so keeping everything crossed!

Well done!

Sadly can't see pictures at work but look forward to having a nose at them tonight.

Skylar and her behaviour is a credit to you and well done for bouncing back to so well with Topaz :)

Always love hearing how you get on, and that's a great weekend well done. Baby pony seems like a little superstar but ummm
sparkly pants? Really? ;-) I also meant to say I was strangely encouraged by your comments above, my boy is being a super star but is a bit of a pain out at events so I'm really hoping he chills out ! Don't need quite such a team of people but I do need someone on the ground to help me get on at the moment !

Well done!! What a weekend :-) it sounds Topaz has come on loads in last year or ao from your reports, you should be very proud!

#sequinpantsforthewin :D

They do get there honestly! It took two years before I could confidently go on my own but with patience and repetition we got there. She's a pleasure now and not a bother, though the roof of the van does still bare the scars...

Fantastic results, well done. Makes all the hard work worthwhile, when everything comes together at once :)

Thank you so unbelievably chuffed with them! Precious moments to treasure I think :).

Yeah it's been a funny interrupted year for her so very pleased it seems to be coming together. It does make the struggle worth while, as I was beginning to think I was doing something wrong. She was going so well at home I knew we could get there at a show eventually :).

Thanks Skylla has such a fab temperament! Even if something does bother her she just shrugs it off and next time is like yep know all about this now.
We do lots of bouncing with Topaz, so bouncing back is fair game :D.

Still giving them an extra carrot and pat :) clever girlies.

What a star baby pony was and what fabulous scores with Topaz! Fingers crossed for Winters

Baby pony is just amazing, she had the dentist on Wednesday just to check all was well after a rather spritely hack, and she had her first electronic rasp with just a slightly wide-eyed expression of what on earth is going on? She's teething but has a fabulous mouth apparently so good to know all is well after the dissapearing wolf teeth!

Topaz, well we're keeping everything crossed! Bold Heath is an up and down venue for her so I'm hoping she decides she likes it again and we can squeeze out those last points! I even bought her a new rug for my mum's bday :D:D:D:D:D

CHICKEN RUG!!!!!! :D Not sure she is as impressed :D

Of course not they will love you for it fact :D, it is a very nice rug... :D

It's a good price too... my Shires lw turnout is probably one of the best rugs I ever bought, it's so tough and hardwearing, so this would definitely be an investment!

Lol.. if I do get one, I will post pics ;)
