Hi just come back from stables where my horses was due to be shod only she couldn't be as farrier found a abcess when he took the shoe off

he can't believe that she hasnt been dog lame on it as apparently its deep...now in the 20odd years I've had horses I've never had to deal with one (luckily) farriers have said now its been released I need to keep her in pultice it and do hot salt water cleaning once a day does this sound about right??? how long will it take to clear as they have booked her back in for shoes next thurs!!! and as she went back into her stable she was lameish.....help advice anyone

One of my geldings had a very bad abcess in his foot, the vet cut up into the foot and it exploded black gunge, he then advised me to keep doing the pultice and wash and suggested i buy some "New Born" nappies to keep it clean and they really did work, they kept the dressing in place under the foot and i used vetwrap around the fetlock to hold the nappy in place.
