I more or less wrote my horse off in March due to wear and tear of muscles/ ligaments/ bones around the wither area (he had a kissing spine operation in June 2009).
Neither vet of physio could give me a definate answer weather he is was in pain or not, and what to do with him, however lately he is being very strange... he is behaving himself! The last few weeks he has been great. I even took him show jumping last week, and he was excellent despite not jumping a course in 11 months :o
Some pictures as evidence:

I know the jumps are tiny, but he did jump 2 double clears and win both classes. So pats all round! :)

p.s the photos are taken by my Mum using my camera

I am currently feeding him Naf Superflex and Global Herbs Alphabute, with is free from Devil's Claw and competition legal. He is on the lowest maintenance dose, but if I use this over the long term will he build up a resistance to it, and therefore will I need to increase the dosage? Is there any negatives of feeding it in the long term?

I feed my horse Buteless by Equine America which i believe would be similar to your supplement.
He's been on it a year now and its working as well as it ever did (very well!) Ive never upped the dose. He has slightly more than maintinence but just because he's a bigger than average horse.
I dont think its something they become resistant to.

I pay £21.99 for a bottle which i think is 1 litre. The regular maintinance dose for a 500kg horse is 15ml. I think there was initially a loading dose of 2 weeks at 30ml or until symptoms improved. I skipped the loading dose as my horse was sound when i started using as he'd had the dodgy joint medicated a month previously.
I give 25ml a day to a 16.2 ID X type and id never ever miss a day he's been amazing since being on it *touch wood quickly*
Id more than recommend it
