I've just spoken to my friend who is an absolute state and i dont know what to tell her? does anyone on here have experience of this?
Last week my friend was given a lab at her local shoot. Shes been half looking for a new one for a while, and one of the guests at the shoot she picks up on found out and offered her his lab. He said it runs on too much for him and he wants rid of it.
She was chuffed, she said hes a gorgeous dog. The guy said he'd just had all his recent vaccinations and if she gave him her address he would post her all his paperwork as its at his home and he lives the other side of the country.
She took him home and let him meet all her other dogs, it was late and dark so she settled him into his new kennel with some food and water and checked him a couple of times but all was fine, and the next day noticed he had thrown up in his kennel alot and was panting heavily, she put this down to nervousness of new surroundings but decided to err on the side of caution and call the vets.
The dog had Flu,
and the vet reckons the last owner certainly knew about it too, as he was in the second to last phase of symptoms or something. and why would anyone give away a perfectly good dog to someone they dont know for free? my friend said it was all a bit rushed because the guy said he needed to get home so that would explain that.
Shes beside herself, apparently its VERY very contagious and all of her dogs (she has 5) have come into contact with him. the vet said all she can do is disinfect everything and hope no symptoms show in the next two weeks.
the Lab had to be destroyed. and the vet said the chances are if any of her dogs have it they will too. She cant take them out for the end of the season and has to stay away from any other dogs!!!
I cant believe someone would do that knowingly. shes informed the shoot because the guy had the dog out all day and there were numerous other dogs present.. im speechless.
Shes tried in vain to get hold of the guy, the number he gave her doesnt work and the shoot dont have any details of him.
