Just told hubby. Now he aint at all horsey, etc., but even he couldn't believe what your 'friend' was going to do. I dread to think what he'd do if someone did that to one of ours.

I hope you are okay RP.

Hugs.

I am gobsmacked that someone could do plan to do such a thing!
I would have slapped her as well and most probably launched a very angry tirade of rude words in her direction! What an utter idiot!

I also think she got away lightly with a slap. And that your other friends may be pushing things a bit far too. I've known some stupid goings on at uni, but nothing like that. You can have jokes without such drastic means :/

As for the pony-painter... She deserves far worse than she got, but they do say where there's no sense there's no feeling and she sounds like a prime example. So glad you got there in time.

You are rightly angry. I would of poured the paint all over her and her friend, and perhaps the inside of her car.. aswell as slapping her. Well done for being so compsed

i hate to say it RP but some of your uni friends sound like complete prats to me

i too can take a joke but changing your alarm clock and potentially ruining an exam would have been enough for me...let alone attempts to paint your horse. what a stupid cow. i'd have knocked her flat out...well done for only giving her a slap. don't suppose she's apologised yet?

Good on you for giving her a slap. I wouldnt have the guts to hit someone I dont think but if someone tried to do that to my horse I would have gone mad and really wanted to knock them out. Hope that totally humiliated her in front of her friends like she deserves!

Sorry but they sound like the worst kind of enemy you could get- what they are doing is not playing a "practical joke" it is nasty and vindictive - they must be so envious of you. Keep your distance from these small minded idiots and tell them you ARE reporting them to the Uni for bullying.

Your so-called friend sounds retarded. Thank heavens you got there just in time, and although slapping someone is probably not the best solution, it was quite understandable and let her know just how strongly you felt about such immature stupidity. Hope she's thoroughly ashamed of herself.

I honestly can't believe what I did next because it is completely out of character but I marched upto her, slapped her across the face, not a word, and walked off with my horse.

[/ QUOTE ]

Can't say I blame you given the circumstances, words fail me as to this girl's stupidity. That said, the single slap will have far more impact if you just leave it at that, say nothing and hope that after this week you never have to see her again. Tempting though it is don't go doing stuff to her car or anything and land yourself in trouble

The exam-alarm-clock-changing thing sounds bad enough to me, but paint on someone else's horse?? What kind of mushrooms were they eating, that this sounded like a sensible idea? I could sort of maybe see it if it was a calm, laid-back creature they had known for years, if they were sure neither you nor the pony would mind, but a known sensitive horse? Stupid.

I can not believe the replies I have been reading. What you friend was going to do was very wrong. She should be reported to the YO and possibly banned. However all she had actually done was catch your horse without your permission. Your actions were over the top. You assulted her and could have been arrested. Violence is NEVER an answer.

Maybe I am gettimg old but I am truly horrifed by this and many other threads where physical violance in response to a problem is suggested and supported.

I think, Magicgirl, that you'll find that what she was about to do (paints etc. at the ready), was not only criminal damage, but animal cruelty.

You weren't there, how do you know what happened? What actually RP's reaction was in response to.

As RP says, it was totally out of character for her to take such action. As to the posts condoning the action are all the responses of people who feel passionately about their horses and will protect and defend them.

are you a horse owner? if so then please read RP's original post carefully and put yourself in her shoes and tell me you wouldn't be a little bit angry?
confused.gif
RP did say TBF that she felt bad and had acted in the heat of the moment- we were all just giving her assurance that we'd have all acted in the same way.

I wouldn't care what I was charged for, be it criminal or anything else. NO ONE touches my horse without permission, especially not to paint it, and as I knew her intentions she was lucky I didn't bury her.
Violence may not be your answer to things, but that doesn't work for everyone. From my OP you can tell the slap was out of character, but I would have done it again in a heartbeat, you obviously either do not own a horse, or do not care about people painting all over it... I honestly LOVE that horse, I go to lengths to wrap him up in cotton wool because he is such a thin skinned animal, and who else is going to protect him from the elements? I haven't got children, nor am I comparing it to mother's instinct, but I am sure 98% of the people on here would put themselves on the line for their horse, and I'm one of those.
As for other pranks, I can take things in good humour, you honestly do need to keep an eye over your shoulder at all times where jokes are concerned, which I usually do find quite funny and I suppose give as good as I get at times, but touching my horse was completely fifty strides over the line. I would never in a million years take anyone else's horse from its field, and if I did, I would expect a slap.

Whilst I don't condone violence, if you read the OP, the girl in question had also as much as admitted that she was going to go ahead with the "painting".

I am not saying that I would necessarily resort to violence under the same circumstance, but I do think it likely that I would come close to/if not doing so, to losing my temper...

Incidentally, I would actually rather object to someone catching or handling my horses without permission or reason.

NEVER an answer?

If someone hurt your child?

If someone hurt your animal?

If someone hurt you?

Maybe I was brought up differently.........

Hi Rosie,

Some may call it student pranks, but i, late middle-age, who has been at uni too, even lectured at a uni, would have simply floored your so-called friend + her male friends also if they ever dared harm one of my horses.

There's right + wrong, + anyone helping themselves to someone else's property without their permission is wrong, + is a criminal offence. If that 'property' is a live animal, then surely the criminal offence becomes more serious.

Bearing in mind, + understanding that you are at uni with these morons... So have you told your personal tutor? Maybe a peaceful solution can be made, if he/she intervenes in this childish thing, + gets to the bottom of why it happened, + why other students want to try to hurt your innocent animal. Are they using your horse to hurt you? Best advice is get your personal tutor involved.

If you get no support there, or from uni in general, then just go to the police.

And may your horse never be harmed, or lots of us will be very upset. BS x

Magicgirl - Yes, violence is not always the answer - but this is a slap not a full on fist fight and stabbing with knives. I don't quite see a slap as an assault, especially if it is in response to something quite infuriating.

In order to be able to "talk sense" into people, believe it or not, those people have to be free of intoxication, have a reasonable IQ level and some social understanding... which this girl certainly did not have. You often can't reason with people like that. With cases such as that, a slap might do wonders. This girl probably was never slapped ever - and that's why she does things without fearing the consequences. Remember how some kids keep on touching the hot plate on the stove despite many warnings from the mum... until one day, they burn their finger, it hurts, they cry... but the pain is then heavily imprinted in their brain and chances are - if they have any sort of intelligence - they'll never do it again.

Oh, and yes, all that girl had actually done was catch the horse without the OP's permission. BUT even in the court of law, INTENT is quite an important factor. INTENT is what makes the difference between murder and manslaughter after all. Even if you only had the INTENT to kill someone and got caught shortly before the act with everyone knowing what your intentions were, you would quite definitely not just walk about freely afterwards.

Most of your 'friends' sound like complete idiots. I would have been really angry in the circumstances too (although not to the extent of slapping somebody, who needs a conviction for assault?)

Maybe you should be separating slightly and finding another yard for your horse where your 'friends' have no right or reason to be, which would also give you some quiet time away from uni connections.
