Today OH and I called up to a local saddlery to try to trade in a redundant GP saddle we've had sitting up for a while.
Good news = got the saddle traded in for a great price.
Bad news (also good, really) = left shop with a new saddle, a Kieffer bridle, saddle cleaning stuff and a gorgeous grey suede-esque Le Mieux saddlecloth. Oh and some new gloves for me, but they're hidden away til Christmas
The bridle is like butter and has a gorgeously soft cutaway padded headpiece, perfect for our girly and her sensitive ears. The browband is also very generous so delighted with it.
Saddle is hopefully the replacement for my other non-fitting saddle (which we are keeping). Have tried it on and it seems good. Nicely balanced, generous width and good even contact along the panels. The horse is happy and saddle fitter will be out as soon as possible to give it a once over.
In our defence the bridle was a necessary purchase as our other tack is brown and the new saddle is black.
All in all a very productive afternoon. I suspect we have boosted the local economy today! ;)

I've the opposite problem, none of my black tack looks right on my new chestnut beastie - only being out here in the Wild West I have to travel hours to get to a decent tack shop. It might be my New Year treat. Where did you go?

We went up to Old Mill, I'm not too far from Lisburn so it's a fairly quick jaunt up the road for us. They have a brilliant selection, apparently approx 1000 so no doubt you would find something decent if you are prepared to trek that far!

Love old Mill, though a bit of a trek for us....

Yep, I recognise that. Recently went to get a new jump saddle. As if that wasn't expensive enough, I came out with all the related kit for it, inc posh pro lite girth thingy, plus two rugs and a jumper for me! Oops.

Some rather lovely German reins (I have discovered I still have a decent havana bridle in my collection which fits the new horse very well but I don't know where the reins are), and I have arranged to upgrade my saddle. Oops. I suspect the postman will appear with other mystery parcels over the next few days, as a certain quantity of Merlot was involved. Another reason not to take the car :D
