My tb is moving yards, as I took everyones advice just over a month ago and decided moving yards was best.
He was recently sedated to be travelled by a vet, but in injection form. The old owner has said she has used ACP tablets for him before but was many years ago so can't remember the dosage rates. I still have some ACP left over as I work at a vets and my mums westie was intolerable to fireworks, so I have about 22 ACP 25mg tablets left.
First question is, I don't really know how many to give him because, they say as a guideline 1 tablet for every 100kg, he is about 600kg. However, alot of friends have said 6 won't touch him. And he would need more like 10-13. Possibly more!
Naf magic calmers, he was given 4 by old owner to try to load him and they didn't touch him, but he is also petrified of the vet so the better option for me is to try some ACP with him, however I am paying for someone to move him as I do not have a trailer myself so I cannot afford to give him not enough, and risk him not loading, and keep them waiting for hours on end! So..although I understand everyhorse is different what's my best step forward? I do not want to risk over-dosing him, but know he is quite tolerant when it comes to sedation and often needs quite alot! He is 15.2hh, roughly 600kg rounded to nearest 100. ACP are 25mg, and I have roughly 21 or 22.
If I were to give him 10, would that have a harmful affect? Bearing in mind he was recently checked over and declared fit and healthy for sedation.
--Also how quickly do they come out of sedation with ACP? The injection form did not last long with him atall
