Adopting horse from Malta

For those commenting on the money side the charity fund raise for the majority so cost wise its roughly £1500 but I'm not sure how much say you get in the horse you end up with. With regards to happy hacking I would also wonder what they would be like on UK roads

OP look for a retired or off the field ex polo pony. Usually lovely easy horses and not all are broken, some just get fed up or don't take to the game. Often reasonably priced to a good home. Several FB pages for them. It might take a while but worth the wait for a nice one and it will give some time to save a bit more cash for the extras that will inevitably be required when you get one. I wouldn't take anything like this from abroad.

Has anyone adopted an ex trotter from Malta or overseas? In todays climate happy hackers are fetching over my budget and I have looked at adopting an ex trotter they look lovely and it would be lovely to give them a nice life, it would be nice to hear some opinions/experiences of people who may have done so?
I know this is an old post but avoid second chance Horse Rescue Malta, horses are generally lame and some blind. Adopters are bullied and horses have been removed due to an “alledged breach of an illegal contract” some horses removed when the owner wasn’t there. Anyone who speaks out gets trolled and bullied and threatened by a bogus solicitor. There is a good article on the dodgy dealer sites and standard bred in the UK. Some shameful behaviour going on

Thank you for your reply, my budget was set at 3k for a happy hacker merely because I thought that should be adequate to buy a horse for occasionally hacking, I have my own land and secure finances to pay for vet bills ect, so that’s not really what my post was about, it was simply asking if anyone had any experiences.
Have you looked at horse charities here in UK? I got a lovely Welsh D from one of my local charities. I’ve had him 6 yrs now & he’s just brilliant.

A work up for a lame horse can easily cost 5k
Unless you have won the euro lottery you would have to be very cautious about taking on an unseen horse being spat out of a foreign country.
If you have won euro lottery crack on having first considered if you have the time, experience and facilities to manage what may be a very challenging to manage horse.

I think you can find a hacking horse cheap. Obviously you need to be careful and listen to your head not heart (my mistake!)

There are a few on the ROR source a horse website at the moment. In particular Southern Sam- He sounds lovely and is £2000 ono There's also a few others, a mare that looked nice but I cant think of her name/advert.

I'd agree with @SEL don't go to some random Maltease Charity but do have a chat with Emily. I was going there for lessons and the ones she had in to rehab werent lame or blind! She also had one arrive from its new UK owners after they decided it was too much for them. I don't know if thats a regular thing but is worth asking the question, or maybe she would even have something ready to go (if they do ebver leave) you'd guarentee one that had been rehabbed and ridden perfectly and given all the time in the world from her
