I really should get on with some work and stop posting on here but just one more won't hurt...

Are any of you adults with ponies? If so, I wondered if you could post some pics of you riding your ponies as I am constantly worried about looking ridiculous on my 14.1 and being too heavy for him. When I got him I weighed about 8.5 stone because I'd been dieting (no more!). I am now back up to my normal weight of 9 stone (I tend to fluctuate between 9 - 9.5 stone). Do you think I am too big/heavy for him, (he's middleweight)? I just adore him and really want to enjoy riding him but worrying all the time is stopping me (along with a few other problems)! I thought if I could see some pics of other adults on ponies it might help reassure me that it's ok.

x

P.S. I think I worry too much...

You worry too much! My lad is 14.1hh and has had a grown man on him, and some people who definitely weigh more than 9.5 stone

and he coped fine

Will try to find a picture for you, I look top heavy on my lad but then I did on a 16.3hh irish draught I used to ride too

I regularly ride a 14.2 and also ride ponies in my lesson. I'm 5'6''

Here's a pic of me having a lunge lesson on a 14.1, sorry it's not v.clear as my OH ain't good with a camera!

I dont have any pictures of me on mine, sorry! Harri is 14.3, and a VERY fine anglo arab, Delilah is 14hh, and a welsh D. Im 9 stone 1, and 5'7'' - They cope very well with my weight. Im sure youre fine!

Here's my pony. She's a 13.1hh Exmoor X and she is on loan to my friend, who incidentally is exactly the same size as me - 5ft 2ins and aroun 9/9.5 stone. She copes with us fine and is happy doing all sorts of work etc.
As you can see, my mate doesn't look daft at all.....

Sounds like you are totally fine on your pony so stop worrying!

Don't worry so much, ponies in general are much stronger than you think they are! I break youngsters and sell them on and there is just as much interest in 14hh from adults as from kids. I think this may even be a growing trend

The last one, 14hh and I am about 9.5 stone

Im 5ft 6 and often ride my fave pony at the RS i work at on a weekend. Hes only 14hh but as you can see, doesnt have any problem with me and can still play up when hes in a cheeky mood.

Photo taken a few years ago so probs only about 5ft 4/5. we were only doing the 18" as he puts in dirty stops when doing the RS shows and he still manages to pull me round the course

I would deff not worry about your weight, as other have said, ponies are stronger than we sometimes give them credit for.

If you happy riding her and enjoying her there isnt a problem

Most of mine are around the 14.2 - 15.2hh bracket. I'm 5'8 and weigh just under 9 stone.

This is me on one of mine; he is 14.3hh:

Thank you all so much! Some great pics there...you all look like you are having loads of fun on your ponies! And you all look absolutely fine on them and not too big at all!

I worry too much, I'm to stop worrying and start having some fun! But I'm not sure if I can because I'm a bit worried about...JOKE! LOL :O)

Not agreat quality pic I'm afraid but this is me and my daughter riding. The grey I'm riding is 13.1hh and I'm 5'7" and weight over 12 stone (I'm working on it!!!!):

* I don't ride her for long periods...a bit of schooling or a short hack because she's not terribly fit but would for longer if she were...

i have just bought a 14.2hh pony - i am 5'2'' and weight 11 stone (i am on a diet - lost 2 lb this week) pics of he and i if you go onto my profile under 'INTRODUCING DEALER' x

I've had my 14.1hh Welsh sec D for 11 years, I'm 9 stone and he has no problems carrying me. We jump, dressage, hack, everything really and he has never had a problem.

He even taught my OH to ride and he is 6ft2" and 12 stone! It did look quite funny but the weight was definately not a problem!

I really wouldn't worry, they are such tough little nuts!! I'm 5'3 and weigh about 8.5 stone, also ride my veteran who is 14hh and 30 yo!! he is welsh section c x arab and copes really well, i don't feel at all big! Mum is a similar size and also rides him, not sure if the picture will work :-)

I'm 5"11/6" and love ponies

Sorry horse people but bigger is not always better

Can look a bit silly on them but am definatly not too tall/heavy(well,maybe ATM but the "saddlebags" are going!) at normal weight ponies have no trouble with me and I find they are much more fun.

I am 5'4" and weigh about 9 stone. I have 2 ponies, both 14.1hh, one is a part arab, the other a hairy cob. One I have had 17 years the other 3. I have competed at Rc level on them both , always against adults (I am nearly 40) and wouldn't change either of them for a horse!!!

my pics are on my siggy, my boy is 14.3hh and i am 5ft3" and weigh anything between 8.2 (thanks to salmonella!) and 8.12 (currently, thanks to late nights at yard = takeaways before bed) and he doesnt even know im on him, jumped on him bareback last week whilst he was in the field and he didnt even look up. OH weighs a bit more (all muscle i hasten to add) and is a bit taller and my boy still doesnt care. father "in law" rides him, heavier still (quite a bit), and nope, no change!! i think theyll soon tell you when youre too heavy, bad behaviour and refusal to move.

havnt got any pics but i have been known to get on my daughters 13.3 welsh (normally to sort the little git out
grin.gif
) ive also hacked her out on occasions and she managed fine and im 5ft 5 and weigh 13 stone...must do something about that..

I competed a 14.2hh up until I was about 21. And then have had 3 more ponies since (to back / bring on and sell for fun) including 2 13.2hh's which I was way too big for! Im no rake either! But 3 of them were pretty chunky, 2 were lighter built so I did feel a bit mean although they didnt seem to struggle.

This was my 14.2hh:

This was another 14.2hh I had a year ago:

My original 13.2hh very first pony who I still have aged 20, had 15 years! He is retired but was so bored last year, I took him to some adult games! Which he won...! Yes I know Im MASSIVE on him but I VERY rarely ride him.

My last "project" - 14.2hh:

Not at all. I'm 26, 5ft4 and weight 9st and have had my pony for 3.5 years. He's just gone on loan to a girl who's 5ft7, 8st and 15years old - permenant loan. I only changed because I wanted a schoolmaster/mistress for jumping, something that was more scopey.

Well, I'm 5"5 and much heavier than you, and my 14.2 Cob copes easily! The way he regularly jumps me out the saddle makes me think he isn't aware i'm up there!
My OH who is 15 stone often gets on for a pootle about with no complaints from the ponio

( excuse the muffin top! )

You're not too heavy either!

my first share/loan was a 13.2 pony and I'm 5ft11; I ride anything from 13.2 upwards
