Hi,

This is my family pony Twinkle who is 8 years old, she is 14hh and I am 5ft 9 and weigh ten and a half stone.

I like to think that i am a well balanced rider but do you think I am too big/heavy for her. She seems to carry me fine, the only negative is that my leg are too long so my leg position isnt great!

your thoughts

below is my tall 7 year old daughter riding her!

you look fine to mee too!
i'm around 5'9 and i know if i got on a 14hh pony i'd look ridiculous, but you seem to fit her quite well :)

I dont think you are big at all you suit each other. I prefer ponies, Im only 5'1" but a stone heavier and I easily ride a cobby 14hh plus. Going to look at one for my Daughter on Sunday amd Im praying it has bone! (So mean Mummy can ride it when Daughter has homework ha ha)
Gorgeous pony BTW

I'm 5'7 but 12 stone and my loan pony is a similar build (maybe a little more bone than your pony).

So long as your pony feels happy carrying you I would continue to ride. Ellie never has any problems with me, so I won't stop riding her.

Personally I think you look a little tall, but that is simply aesthetic! There are far worse combinations, and if both of you are happy, that is way more important.

I would rather see a slightly too tall rider on a pony than a pea on a drum ;)

i do get the odd comment like "get a proper horse" but then again i do sometimes hack with a 17.2hh!!

would love to see other peoples pictures of them riding ponies!!

She`s so pretty! I think you look fine on her, great even, your feet arent dragging along the floor :)

I think you look a pretty good size on her! And weight wise I see no issues.
It's once your legs hang below the belly it gets a bit silly looking.

I also can't see much wrong with your leg position...but maybe its because mines so poor.. :D

Saddle is a barefoot! i spent loads of money trying to find a saddle that wasnt too long in the back for twinkle but something that accommodate my ample bottom!!! and this saddle ticked all the boxes

You look fine, much better than I did on ponies (although granted I was riding smaller ponies and I'm shorter ;) ) and I never had any problems with my height/being too heavy.

I always either got mistaken for a child or told to get a proper horse though.

My daughter is 5ft7, weighs around 8.5 stone and regularly rides our 13.1 Welsh B, she looks pretty tall on him and people do make remarks when we take him to shows but neither of them seem to care and he is certainly not uncomfortable or unhappy. You look a lot more in proportion on your pony than she does on ours so don't worry!

I'm 5'8" and my pony is 13.2hh, ok he is an wide as a bus which does help to take up the leg but I just hoik my stirrups up and go!!

I keep typing this every time I see this type of post.

I am a man, 6'1" tall, I weigh 12 1/2 stone and I ride a 14.2hh New Forest 'wide boy'.

I don't look silly, or at least no one has been brave enough to tell me if I do, and H the Fat Lad is more than capable of taking my weight and galloping at stupidly fast speeds (we catch 17hh hunters and TB's on fun rides!).

He's slimmer this year than he was when this picture was taken, but you get the idea.

I don't have many photos on this computer, but this is me (see above for stats) and Ellie, who is 14hh and 14 years old

So you can see how tall she is relatively... sorry it is so huge!

Clearly, she is buckling under my immense weight... but since this and the next photos were taken I have lost a stone so I am now lighter than air! ;)

Another one to show she struggles to lift me off the floor...Just ignore the appalling riding!

I can't believe anyone would tell someone to get a proper horse! If anyone told me that I would knock them out. My pony is 13.3hh but I'm only 5'1. He is so wide that I look small on him. I don't mind being mistaken for a kid as someone approaching 30 lol. You look nice on your pony. I also think NeilM looks great on his NF. Not exactly buckling is he? My pony would shudder at the waste of energy and calories clearing that jump.

sorry - but i was completely sidetracked by the fact you have a 7 yr old daughter - but you look soooo young - whatever it is you are putting on yr skin - i want some too:D
BTW - in my far from expert opionion you look fine on the pony

I think you look fab! I ride a 14.2 fjord and my friend rides a 13.1 exmoor:

I am certainly not a lightweight, yet pony has no problem carrying me! I have lost a bit of weight since this pic was taken, and now we have started jumping :D

No !! You look fine, lovely pony by the way & if you really do feel she is to small please send her my way :)
Although I think I could be guilty of pony squishing!

To the OP - there is no way on Earth you are to big for your pony! You look perfect together! If your ever selling her, please feel free to send her my way! I'm sure Sketch would love a girlfriend haha! I ride a naughty 11.1hh section A every so often just so she gets schooled further as her rider is only 5 and she had no problem whatsoever bucking with me! I've jumped her over 2'6 logs in the woods before too. Sure I look a bit silly but I'm not crushing her and she is still more than capable of moving (Boy can she go!) so I see no problem in it.

Its so nice to see fellow pony riders in action! Everyones ponies are gorgeous! There is something I just love about the equine species that are under 14.2hh LOL!

Here is me and my boy doing Dressage. I'm 5'3 and weigh 7 stone 12lbs and he is 14.1hh.

Love him so so much :).
