Blue's caught the cough that's been going round the barn, so plans to record a dressage test are on hold. She's bright and cheerful, eating well, and not remotely lethargic (as I discovered when attempting a sedate hack around the block) but she's very cuddly which is always a sign she doesn't feel well. Only coughing when working, though, so she'll be having time off until she's better.

I've got two horses to ride this weekend. Very sadly, Pocholo's loaner was rushed to hospital on Tuesday and is still there. I'll be visiting her today and can't wait to see her - she's a great friend.

I trotted Chilli last night for the first time and he was habanero-level spicy! Hopefully we rediscover his relaxed trot over the next few weeks...

I'm troubled by the current weather, although tomorrow is good. I doubt eland will cancel, they've certainly run unaffiliated in worse weather but Charlie prefers firm running. Ill still run i think but im not optimistic for it being fabulous.
I'm very late in the day so at least I'll be able to see how the ground is by then - avoid obvious heavy bits where I can

It's such a shame, a hard start to the year for BE and eventers. Hopefully the weather will dry up soon 🤞

It's gutting- the horse is fit, well and ready to run. We've done all our prep work and now the whole season plans have to be changed as he has missed 2 runs. Oh well, there are worse things to happen, hopefully we'll get to the next one at the end of the month!

It’s a real pain isn’t it!!
Oz has missed 2 as well so will go to Chatsworth on less than ideal prep

Dressage tomorrow with the big horse. We affiliated this year with the goal being to get a single point (I don't aim too high lol) After some questionable tests on our first 3 outings we managed to get 64% score last month so goal achieved. Tomorrow will be interesting to see if it was a fluke lol. He's really not very consistent so fingers crossed!

Tiny pony will have a good drive out on Sunday to keep his fitness up!

As it stands I'm still meant to be eventing at Eland tomorrow. Can't say I hold out much hope of it actually happening - it has rained all day here 50 miles up the road, and the rain maps make it look like it is raining over Eland from mid-morning through until 9pm. TBH I can't really get any enthusiasm together for getting ready for the event - they cancelled in 2018 when I don't remember it being anywhere near as grim in the lead up to the event. If it is on I will turn up and do dressage SJ (SJ is on a surface) and see what kind of quagmire awaits us. Horse's first 100, so no point running if it is grim - he's not really had any exposure to jumping out of mud before.

What a shame. Only a few hours ago they were posting pictures of the course and it looked brilliant.

I'm so unsurprised by the cancellation. And it's not an event I enjoy very much, so i'm not so wildly disappointed. Trip round Somerford farm ride instead I think, and then showjumping next weekend. Who knows, baby horse might get to have his first BE100 run third time lucky at Bradwall?!

The course is generally pretty reliable there, it's not my favourite to compete at but would have been a nice first run - he's been there enough times to know it will be OK but not a breeze as its not a soft course imo
I can't run at bradwall though as it clashes with other stuff. Means his first run this year will lilely be 90 at llany though - new venue and second time out at 90 which wasn't my plan

Whereas I'm now headed to first BE100 at Bradwall, which is always quite a lot more testing than the Eland BE100 (which is generally stupidly straightforward, but also annoyingly unflowing!).

Whereas I am desperate to WD and cannot because they won’t replace me so have to hold on to my entry in case they abandon. This is why BE pisses me off so much. We have a tonne of people who would take my space. Instead I lose out and someone else loses a space as no point in me giving it up.

I have not managed to go xc schooling after Larkhill so a waste of time going to Oxstalls. I am pissed off and fed up with the weather, exhausted by everything going on and think I am done before I have even started. Actually I own a yearling now so maybe just give up and cut my losses as in best position to do that now.

Sympathies to everyone going/maybe going/ wanting to go eventing this weekend- such a stressful start to the season.
I’m taking Poppy to her first Working Hunter tomorrow- had an expensive stop off at the saddlery as it’s been years, and several children, since my last workers so my butt was not squeezing into my old jods, I don’t own a single plaiting band and who knows where half the other stuff I need is! I’m on at 08:45 and then my friend is jumping her just after 9 so we should be home before 10am, which is lovely, and will hopefully make up for how early I’ll have to get up to see if I still know how to plait! (Surely it’s like riding a bike??)

Found out when we were three quarters of the way down the road, hotel paid for so decided just to carry on down and visit the gang at home. Typically enough the traffic was absolutely sodding terrible the rest of the way but we're here now! So early morning yard visit then back up the road!
Driving event on Sunday cancelled too so it'll be a pretty quiet weekend!

Sounds very frustrating for all those competing. I take a while to get going so will hang on for hopefully nicer weather. By which time the ground will be too hard ofc 🙄
