As some of you know i've come to the decision to sell my ex racer as i don't have the time/ money to do him justice. i've had him for 6 years and he was my first horse so is very special to me- a good home is more important than getting money for him. have even decided that a permanent/ long term loan home would be a real possibility if i could find someone suitable- again, the right home is most important thing.
so...i need your help composing a suitable advert that should help to weed out the people just wanting a cheap horse that they can hammer into the ground. also could do with a price estimation (i know it won't be a lot so don't worry about offending me!

)

this is the detail about him:

13 year old ex-racer, 15.2 bay gelding. been out of racing 6/7 years. has competed RC all events, especially loves XC. great to handle, catch, shoe, will live in or out. hacks in company and alone.

now the negatives:
- if he's hammered and jumped a lot he probably won't stay sound. thats why i don't compete him anymore. i've done a few XCs in the last couple of years and he's been fine but haven't dared push him further. he's mostly just been hacked out so his flatwork is rather rubbish and would need a fair bit of work to do dressage with him.
- he wears heartbar shoes and has poor hoof quality so needs a realiable farrier!
- he needs sedating to be clipped and won't travel in a trailer. he's fine in a box or an equitrek if loaded in a bridle.
- as a TB and an ex racer he can have 'moments'. these are not regular and he never rears or bolts and rarely bucks.

i would love him to go to someone sensible and confident (but not necessarily the best rider in the world- they just need to be calm) for happy hacking an maybe a bit of low level competing. i really want to avoid people ringing up for an eventer for their 12 year old daughter!

With today's market I woulod value him at around £1000 dont know what you had in mind but people may be put off by the heart bar shoes as remedial shoeing can be quite expensive x

i was actually thinking less than that
blush.gif
but guess i can advertise at the higher end anyway...from experience people have no problem ringing when they want to pay much less

his shoes are £80 a set

but they have kept him sound so priceless

Good do well in Dressage with a bit of schooling. 100% to handle, catch and shoe and loads into a Horse Box. Will live in or out. Can be a bit sharp so not novice ride. Both sound good but I think if you write love XC you might get somebody who thinks they will get a cheap horse XC it and see how it goes I think I prefer the top one with "will pop a jump" *gives farm riders a plus point* and big up the dressage more
laugh.gif

hmmm, yes that is a good point, hadn't thought about that!! yes definitely back to "will pop a jump" and then if people ring i can explain that he hasn't sj'd for 3 years so might be a bit rusty? CA- you know rocky, you think that sounds a fair reflection of him?
smile.gif
want to make sure its honest so i get the right person!

another question...where should i stick my ad? don't really fancy paying a lot for the ad.....where do ex racer people look?
smile.gif

Yes I think it does sound like a fair reflection of the gorgeous boy...I hope you get the phonecalls..

I'd try stabletalk, newrider, and the local feedstores and tackshops,I'm going to Eureka tomorrow if you have a ad you want me to bung up there....
smile.gif

I worded it as 'pops a jump' as this will put off any serious competitors as it gives the impression that the odd jump from time to time is all your horse is capable of. Then, when the right kind of person comes to view your horse you can always tell them that the occasional cross country competition won't hurt him.

I said £1500 because a lot of people will haggle with you to try and get the price lower anyway so if you start off with a number higher than your expectations you should get a decent amount for him in the end. And, you never know - you could be lucky and someone might come along and pay the asking price!
