Advice, good vibes & a shoulder to cry on...... not sure which I need.

QR - One extra thing to bear in mind....
the airway resistance within the respiratory system is HUGE, and blocking just a quarter of the airway with a floppy larynx will make it 16 times more difficult to breathe

My mare is a candidate for a hobday and tieback at some point, which is something I wanted to leave as she is relatively mild, but having spoken to my vet and been given those numbers I feel quite uneasy at the thought of her having to struggle so much.

Wishing you and Spider the very best of luck for the op. X

dear quarrybank,

please don't have him PTS!

if you can afford it, do the reversal, have him as a hack/sj/ dressage horse, give him that chance, he's only 6!

no offence, but sometimes people are too quick to think that having their horse PTS is the only option left. They give us so much pleasure, its our duty to do as much as we can for them.

To tell you a long rambling story.... we bought a lovely 17.1hh chestnut hunter type 2 years ago for hacking, novice riders, poss light hunting but not much more, he was 15, he had a heart murmur, but that didn't stop us buying him, he was such a lovely gentle giant, anyway... 3 weeks after he arrived it all went downhill, he developed laminitis in winter ( anxiety from being seperated from his long term field buddy we think) and we discovered after many tests at the vets, he had narcolepsy, and his heart murmur had got worse. so we were advised that he should never be ridden again due to the risk! so we decided that we would try and find a companion home for him, we found one, but 4 months later she said she was pregnant couldn't have him any more and oh yeah he had strangles 3 weeks ago, but she couldn't afford the last swabbing.
anyway, she gave us an ultimatum, we had to collect him or find him a new home in less than a week otherwise she would have him PTS. So that was quite frantic to say the least, somehow a miracle, we found a fantastic lady who wanted a companion for her mare, up near Newark, and she was willing to take him with all his issues, so we paid for the transport to newark. We all made sure this horse was given another chance, as he had a job to perform, he was/ is a very good companion.

And as you know from previous posts, we;ve had to go through a difficult tieback/hobday with our new boy....but we will and always have given every last possible chance to our boys past/present/future.
PTS is always the very very very very last option.

sorry for rambling on, but i do feel very strongly about this issue!

big choc chip cookies all goey in the middle for getting this far!! ;-))

I haven't got any advice to give you, and it's such a shame that the tie-back was unsuccessful. So I'm sending you both lots of hugs, because I know it's such a hard situation to be in.
