Henry, 3 year old Sprocker.

Fit and healthy in all ways, comes to the farm with me 5 days a week and helps me muck out 5 straw stables, tries to make friends with the yard cats (virtually feral), and generally has a great time.

The thing is, Frontline doesn't seem to work for long, maybe a week or so and then he's back to scratching and licking and when I look, he's crawling with the damn things. The other 5 dogs at the farm don't seem to be as troubled as he is.

I have resorted to bathing him regularly and then going over him with the nit comb which he loves and picking out and drowning as many of the fleas as I can find which is usually quite a lot.

What else can I do?

I hate the thought of these critters breeding in my carpets and the bites I also get. Is it likely they are coming from the straw?

Does anything work better than frontline in these circumstances?

All suggestions will be very gratefully received.
Thank you.

Speak to your vet. There are things that he/she can prescrice which are better than frontline . Also you have to thoroughly do every room where your dog goes in the house and the car otherwise its a wasted effort. Good luck

Problem with normal frontline is that it only kills the fleas after they've bitten.. So if he goes places where there are fleas they may jump on and bite before they die.. Vets sell frontline combo - this kills the fleas that bite plus treats the environment by making dead skin/hair etc which the dog looses poisonous as well. This may work better for you? Also to give yourself a fighting chance try spraying your home, car etc with a flea spray like staykill (also from the vets) as they multiply and breed disgustingly quickly! Can you tell I hate fleas

Lastly, does he get wet a lot? This may wash it off/stop it being as effective.

Good luck, I know how annoying they are - I have a cat with severe flea allergy and I am forever spraying and frontlining!

As suggested...make sure you treat the house as well as the dog...otherwise everytime a new batch hatches hey will hop bak on, spray radiators, dog bed, carpets, skirting boards e,t,c...apparently garlic is also a good natural deterrent...u can get this in capsule form from places like holland & barrett e,t,c...I would use the frontline spray on... as opposed to the spot on....I always feel it does a better covering.

i am not sure if you can get one for dogs but i got my cat an injection which prevents fleas living on them for 1 year it cost around £60
