Hi
I have a section d mare who is almost 5, she's my first horse and i've had her for nearly 6 months now.
I've had a bad week with her! I felt she was awkward to ride in my lesson on tuesday and just not her usual happy self. I think she's in season...she was pully nasty faces at me yesterday and tossing her head at me over the stable door, she was on her toes to ride and usually laid back to hack (quite spooky in the school), back at the stable after the hack she contnued to pull faces at me and if i was out of sight she was stressing and calling, nickering when i came back inside.

She had a really wet bed and as im only used to riding geldings this is all new to me. I did ride a TB mare for a year but she was not at all like this.

I just need some advice on how to deal with her. Do i continue to ride her as usual? Do i treat her differently? Help!

how long will this last? I understand that natives have different cycles to TB & Arabs.

she very well might be in season! is her urine strong? do you have a stallion or a new gelding near by??
is she on her own? is she teething? spooking is a comman problem with younsgters, one of our section D's would spook at anything for a bit of fun.
i agree you should have the vet give her a check up.
what i have noticed is when a mare is in heat they will often call out and call stallions/horses. She is probably stressing when in heat.
hope i could help

Hi

I'm got a sec-D mare that's 4 atm. She was a sod today actually. I wonder if it's changing weather and being in season. The whole hack out she was nickering and swishing her tail. She does get a telling off but she was quite relentless today. I've had her for two years and I do remember last year a slight change in temperment with spring.

Personally I'd stick with it and see how see behaves next time you ride.
