had a great response to my age polls
so just wanted to do another poll to see what you will do with your horses !
will you keep them till the end or sell for a younger horse ? ?
 
oh god,how annoying why has the poll done that i put for it to work straight away i dont know why it says that !!!
not till 12 !!!!!

in case i dont get chance to vote (im in work!!!) i will keep my horses to the end!! i may aquire more younger ones but wont sell them on!!................i plan to be a mad old woman who collects aminals!!!!!
 
lol bh i always said that !!
when im old and grey i will be surrounded by animals like some old mad women,shouting at the kids saying get of my land !!!!!!
 
TBH I've never understood the buying & selling of animal I wouldn't sell my dogs because they were old therefore the same rule applies to my horse. She has given me years of pleasure and hopefully will continue to do so, so when the time comes I'll do the right thing.
 
I always say that some of mine are for sale...but strangely...when I had people wanting to buy them...I didn't!
My old mare is with me for life...and I intend to keep my youngsters too...

Age is irrelevant with mine - I buy a horse in need and rehome it when I find its ideal home, hopefully one it will have for life. This year's is a real baby at just 4, but she'd go tomorrow if I met her perfect life partner, and will stay until next year if that's what it takes.
I'll be gutted when she goes,

but if she didn't, I tell myself there's a horse in need out there I won't be helping if she stays when she could be happy with someone else.
 
I admit to tears...
But I get SO much pleasure from the emails, photos etc I get sent of my "babies" out having fun doing all the stuff I used to do myself in my previous life...
 
I would love to say my horse is with me for life but unfortunately no-one can foresee the future. Also my horse was brought to do a job and if she wasn't up to it (which we are still debating) then she would be sold.

If however i had her many years and it was just down to her age then no she wouldn't be going anywhere unless personal circumstances forced it.

I used to say i would keep my pony forever but i outgrew him when he was about 7yo, i could of kept him and just continued to hack him out but i didn't think this was fair so i sold him to a home where he could continue to have fun.

I dont think you can really say you would keep a horse forever as who knows whats round the corner
 
myself and a friend from the yard have already decided that we is gonna buy a large house with loads of land and spend our days roundin up all the waifs and strays!! cats, dogs and horses! we plan on wearin moth eatin clothes and bein mad old women!!!!!
 
I hate it when horses are re-homed because they can no longer do the job. They give us their all then get thrown away like a broken telly.
I guess for some people they have little choice, and business type yards have to keep useful horses to keep their business going.

So, guess what? Mine are for as long as I can possibly keep them, hopefully for their life.
 
yep i agree mine are with me forever!! there is no way she would be sold as she would be sent right back to me!!! i have already sorted with my aunt (who works with redwings) that if it ever gets to stage i cant afford her then they will have her although my auntie has said she will pay for my horse if needed so i could keep her. i bought her as person i got her from was gonna send her to the meatman as she wasnt in foal!! as it was she was in foal as i found out 4 months later! i just cant see horses put down for no reason. she wasnt what i wanted but would never part with her.
