Although I have converted to Warmbloods as taking a dressage route... just wondered if there are any Akhal Teke owners/riders out there who I haven't met yet? (we are a small minority!) Would love to hear from anyone with connections with this fascinating breed.

I have had my boy for 11 years now, he is nearly 21 but still as lively as ever. And what a steep learning curve it was going to him from a 14hh veteran pony when I was 14, but we've had a lot of fun along the way

I had a horse book when I was little and inside the front cover was this gorgeous picture of a golden horse. I have wanted one ever since, what are they like in temperament? Is yours golden?
 
I knew one a Stallion called Gocklen (sp) he would be about 18/19 now and I believe he is in America.

He was an absolute stunner

Seahorse on here knew him as well ... and I believe she added a post to a link to some of his pictures .... calling Seahorse

Wow, I was expecting to wait weeks for a reply, hardly anyone has heard of them! Mine has always been quite fiery temperament wise, very sharp off the leg, and he's still a bit spooky in his old age. However I know of some that are really quite placid. Mine is golden dun - he has a lovely sheen to his summer coat. I will have to dig some pics out and post them.
 
I remember Goklen! Never saw him in the flesh but have heard of him through the Akhal Teke society, photos etc. Yeah he went to the US quite a few years back, lovely looking horse.
 
My mum used to see them regularly she was born in the old USSR and there was a stud where she grew up... they are some of the most graceful horses known... but I personally have not met one in the flash only heard stories.....

I think they look gorgeous horses and their colouring looks amazing but I've never seen one in the flesh - would be nice if you would post a piccie of your boy - PLEASE

I believe an Akhal Teke stallion was presented to John Major when he was Prime Minister.

I can just imagine his face!

Faintly remember hearing that it was sent to the Queens Guards. Wonder what happened to him? (The stallion rather than JM!!)
 
I haven't an AT, but do have another russian breed - a Tersk from the Stavropol stud - the chestnut in my sig

I believe that was actually Goklen, he was sold to my friend and then sold to America.
 
I've always wanted one - there's a stallion in the local area so if he's still available for stud/AI when I'm ready to breed from B they'll be my first call

I think the horse was/is called Maksat and he was/is at stud in Wales somewhere.

I remember the first ever dressage test W did with him, he galloped out of the arena!

And didn't she have terrible trouble with him at competitions? He would literally try and jump on everything there!!
 
Oh now you say it I can remember snippets of it .... D used to have to go with her everytime ....

He was lovely though .... I remember a time when she bought a new girth for him and when she took it off she rubbed her hand down it and felt something prick her finger .... she pulled out a pin .... bless him he had not reacted and it must have been sticking in him

Yes I remember that, I thought he had bucked her off or something because of it?

She claimed and got compensation from the makers of the girth for that you know!
 
I only have a few professional pics on me which I can't post, but when I go to my parents place I will get some.

Yes, John Major's horse is called Maksat, he's a silver coloured stallion who is with a lady in Wales. She competes him in dressage and endurance. He's a stunner.

Lol yes I wouldn't describe their temperaments as suitable for a novice!
 
Hi there i can see its been a while since the last post here about Alkhal Tekes but i would love to get this conversation started again. I have an Alkhal Teke and i have never ever known a horse as amazing and individual as him. I know there are only about 14 in the UK at the moment and they are not well known at all, even my vets made me say the breed again! it would be nice to speak to other owners

hello- just found this old thread and would love to get it started again. I have an Akhal Teke mare, moved her back from Russia to the UK a year ago and would love to speak to other AT owners out there... They are a wonderful breed and I have learnt so much from mine.
