My boy has a rather large head but usually can fit into a full size quite happily. He needed the ex-full (or warmblood) as otherwise I couldn't do the noseband up and the browband was a little snug. Only thing with the bigger size is that the throat lash is about a metre long so I had to have that shortened!
Randomly, you've hit on something here (though not meaning to wander off in your thread but it's kind of related...) Why is it that bridles and headcollars don't fit what they say they will? Brandy is 14.2hh, nor is she particularly cobby (correct me if you disagree by all means! I'm very biased and just see a fat belly
) yet it would take a crowbar to get most pony or cob sized bridles onto her head. When we finally found one (the OH lavishly bought me a Stubben bridle many moons ago) even that had to be full-size, though as someone mentioned about theirs above, the throatlash could have wrapped round twice. Is this like women's clothing, in that the sizes are just totally irrelevant to the actual size and shape of horse's heads? I half wonder why we don't have horse head 'sizes' just like we do for human feet. (Or do we and I haven't been paying attention?)
I too have an extra full, though my boy is over 17hh. Like others - the noseband wouldn't meet on the FS. I find though that the headpiece is too long for this bridle, so the browband sits quite low over my boys eyes - the FS isn't much shorter and not sure if the cob would be too short.
I'm agreeing with all! My KB is a full and my ginger beast and previous horse are def cob size kinda boys!!! I tried a drop noseband attachment and that was the weirdest size of all....can't even describe what it looked like but wasn't right and didn't fit so sent it back!!
You lot are fantastic, thank you!
I reckon I will buy my usually cob sized TB a full sized albion then!
One more question - are the browbands particularly roomy? For the weymouth version of this bridle the blurb syas that it has an oversized browband, I was wondering if the snaffle ones are the same?!
chillidragon - if you buy from Jeffries or Kate Negus or similar then you can buy the bridles in modular form
I just wish all manufacturers provided a mix'n'match service for their bridles
I would say the browband on my full size bridle and cob size horse is quite snug / as small as it can be without being uncomfortable, if I was buying it on its own I would've got for a size bigger!! Hope that helps!!
