I have often seen on Ebay Albions described as 'medium wide but more like a medium'. So, are the width fittings on Albions a bit tight or is it just the odd saddle here and there?

I have dressage and gp Albions for my mare both mw and she is definitely a mw so no I don't think they come up smaller, just right imo.

They seem to come up pretty standard fit on my horses- mine are mw and one has a mw albion.

The newer Albion's have the genesis tree anyway- so the head plates are changeable by Albion, when my other horse had an Albion i had the plate changed which was pretty straight forward.

He he I had to look up what AFAIC meant :o

Surely the D to D ring gives an idea of the width of the tree? The amount of flocking may affect this? I'm not a saddle fitter, I just know what I know from having more than my fair share of awkward shaped horses.

There's also the complication that you can have the head widened/narrowed but this alteration may not be stamped on the saddle. I think it's a risky business buying saddles off Ebay,no matter what the saddle is, you need to be able to try it on your horse

But having been bitten the proper way I am tempted. I paid a grand for a new saddle, paid for professional fitting on top and still ended up with a saddle that isn't quite right!

I have an Albion Legend GP in extra wide and it was just right widthways for my cob. Unfortunately it doesn't fit anymore now that he's changed shape significantly and I've had to buy a new made to measure saddle. I'm really worried it won't be anywhere near as nice as the Albion :( as I love that saddle. I'd ask for measurements before you buy if you're sure the saddle suits your horse. I'm also hoping that since Albions are so nice mine will be easy enough to sell, so hopefully you won't have too much trouble if you do find yourself with one that doesn't fit. :)

It sounds like your fitter has let you down badly :(

I think there are bargains to be had on Ebay if you know a lot about saddle fitting but I'm not confident enough and wouldn't risk putting a saddle that didn't fit my horse on its back without my saddle fitter (whom is my friend and I trust) giving her opinion.

Am currently on the look out for an albion jump saddle, tons of the ads say med tree but generous fit. I have an ideal in a medium plus, the albion in a medium is the same width.

Mine would be 10yrs old if I still had them but mines usually medium wide but was a medium in both albion dressage & jump saddles.
On eBay there's also the chance it means its had flocking adjusted to be narrower or wider than its size would indicate.
