Is Alfa A classed as a forage, and if so is it okay to feed pretty soon after work rather than having to wait for an hour like one does with hard feed?

Am looking to get some extra weight on my rather skinny horse, she's got plenty of muscle and an impressive back end but has had a hard six weeks and is looking a bit light. She's very picky so I don't want to change her off the cool cubes that she gets am and pm as she eats them with relish so want to give her an extra feed which because of timings would have to be after I've ridden so am thinking Alfa A (with added Lidl Oil) could be fed pretty soon after exercise, and is pretty nutritious.

Also, how beneficial do you think Alfa A is for weight gain?

She's incredibly picky and her "likes" change from day to day (something I indulge to keep her eating) which is why I'm adding my own oil to it. Is also the reason I hand feed her TS Balancer as some days she thinks it's yummy and other days doesn't want it! But she does consistently eat the cool cubes which is why I don't want to change her onto a more calorie dense cube!

Like Cleo I found Alfa A oil very good for my arab who started to run up a bit light halfway through a hunting season. I fed it separately, his choice then whether, or when, he ate it.

I feed soaked Alfa cubes (they come in 2" dehydrated chunks here) all through the winter to everything I have, and through the summer to some lactating mares, they are also on hay with a reasonable amount of alfa in it.

Alfa-A Oil is a winner on all counts! Maybe mix it with some Alfa-Beet. My boy is a bit fussy over feed. Actually, very! But he loves it when mixed with the Alfa-Beet!

It shouldn't do any harm being fed straight after exercise, seeing as it is forage. So long as she's not blowing! It's not like she can bolt it down, and actually has to take time chewing it before swallowing. There's some stuff about actually being able to ride a horse straight after a feed like this too? All to do with the digestive transit and it can buffer the acid in the stomach too. All food for thought!!
