All horses need extra vitamins?

She isn't the only person recommending full supplementation of a balance / vits & minerals to all horses. Clare the scottish nutritionist is very open about her belief that all horses need supplementing as grass / hay is insufficient - and she is very qualified.

I have friends who haven't fed their retired horses anything outside grass and hay for years without ill effect. Would any deficiency be more obvious if the horses were in work? Possibly. But I also know someone who hunts their horses off grass and haylage and they have cracking feet and tonnes of energy. Given where she lives I would suspect the grass isn't 100% balanced but the horses seem to be managing just fine. Would a blood test show otherwise? Maybe.

ETA deleted my post, but only because the origin of this subject is off limits on the forum. We don’t want poor Fatty to get his ears burned again.
Deleted mine too for this reason.

No point raking over old ground and the post in the OP was just advertising.

Judge the horse in front of you

IIRC correctly the Scottish nutritionist previously ‘liked’ a post which stated that horses very rarely suffer from hind gut ulcers, and if they do so the ulcers don’t cause any problems.

Struck straight off my list of people whose opinions are of value.

My own much more highly qualified vet has seen hind gut ulcers many times on post mortem (currently the only way to conclusively diagnose them). Who wants to employ a nutritionist who is so poorly informed?

you copied and pasted from her post on the same day that she posted her article. Didn't need to be Sherlock Holmes to work it out. :D:D

There are many people on here that don't see those posts as they are blocked, or they don't have them come up on their feed. Anyone who hadn't seen it, wouldn't have known who posted it.

I’d got no idea who had posted the initial FB ‘all horses need supplementation regardless’ post.

I don’t follow that person. Just assumed that the statement was made by a random know nothing influencer 🙃.

Im one that was blocked a very long time ago, I had absolutely no idea whose FB post you had copied, till someone much further down thread mentioned it.

@paddy555 , careful you dont drop a stitch in your row. Not everyone has a vendetta, some of us merely comment on what gets posted here.
