The winter is upon us. My horses (and dog, come to think of it) are all going crazy. As if winter isn't painful enough do we really need all the extra fizz!!

Was going to ride the youngster last night, then thought better of it as it was bloody cold and couldn't bare putting my bum in that freezing cold saddle! So i lunged instead, and am i glad i did! She did plenty of gazelle impressions.

After i pushed my arms back into their sockets i lunged fae too, as bum was well and truly still cold. She insisted of running away from her shadow on the wall, and then kicked out at it multiple times, just for good measure. She also insists all jumps must be bucked over, and cleared by 3ft through the winter months. Frosty poles are easier to knock- apparently.

So, how are all your horses behaving? And how are your limbs feeling! Currently fearing for mine! Things we do for horses,eh :)

*jaw hitting floor* all I can say is well sat and did you need alcohol after that!! I would invest in some serious bubble wrap for your limbs!!

My loan mare bucked and squealed the other day. I've loaned her for 2 years and she's never lifted a foot off the ground before!
Oh no! The devilish winter, turns even the nicest into looneys! :D

Jeez OP, she's got quite some err "scope" hasn't she???

Haha, thanks! She's very talented and scopey, but also very fast with a very over active back end i think is the best way to explain it :D

Haha, thanks! Alcohol was needed, but then it always is :D She does a lot of leaping and bucking and generally being an idiot at the best of times, but wasn't really expecting that in the middle of our jump off! Bubble wrap on order, good idea, and i wont be cold! Winning all round :)

Well not quite in the same league as that buck! But I have just spent a freezing 5 minutes trying to catch dear pony in a paddock not even 1/4 of an acre. Whilst very patient farrier awaited! Grr....

Baring in mind I could normally catch my boy in a 100 acre field! *sigh+rolls eyes*!
Now we have a very muddy and grumpy pony a freezing cold me a rather annoyed farrier and a paddock now torn up!!

Cor blimey, op, rather you than me! :D
Fingers crossed she feeling a little less energetic tonight :)

Oh no! Always on the cold days isnt it...
bl**dy hell!!!! Hats off to you... I would have gone splat VERY quickly!

I hope you don't have to sit too many acrobatics, though it is only getting colder :o

I've usually got quite a sticky bum. She refused a small jump last week and i went splat though! :D

Blimey, quite an impressive acrobatic display... This is why I stick to dressage these days ;o)
I think it must be a sign of my own advancing years as bronc episodes seem to leave me with subsequent back aches the next day! I feel like I'm due for some hi-jinks, moving from our long term livery yard tomorrow after 3 years where they have no grass and generally relaxed in their routine to our new house with lots of grass and significant more space.. hijinks, loose shoes and muchos snorting anticipated!

just scrolled up again, thinking this has to be a mare :-)

brings back memories, reason I gave up indoor jumping at the time, does she do the 180degrees spin in mid-air as well ?

Loose shoes!! Argh, mine have been off the grass and just turned out in the school for a while, so I haven't had a loose shoe for a while but my tb is pro at removing her own! Good luck in the move :)

Yep! Big chestnut mare :). Oh god I hate indoor showjumping, she gets even worse! No spinning, although I won't mention that to her because I'm
Sure she would give it a go :P.

Yesterday mine did some moves that would make the Spanish riding school green with envy. It would have been impressive if not for the fact I was on my own and all I had asked for was a simple trot to canter transition....
The end move was her stopping mid-buck and trying to graze!! She couldn't understand why mum was so unimpressed with this amazing show of equine prowess.
