All of you with 15 year old girls

I am shocked by how many mums muck out! We have always mucked out our own since we moved to have the horses at home (think ages 10,12 and 14ish, possibly a year or so older.
It only takes ten minutes, unless you make a song and dance out of it!

When i was 13-18 and doing gcse's a levels etc I had to ride each of mine 4-5 days a week, we'd have between 3 and 5 in at once. I did all the work on the yard, and in return didnt have to help in the house with housework! It was great!!

I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect her to ride more regularly. When i had mine at that age, and throughout my teens i rode every day i possibly could (usually 6 days a week, on average) and couldn't get enough!

My daughter's interest started dwindling at age 16 and I found it was a waste of time trying to encourage her to ride and compete.
She had the most straight forward schoolmaster you could ask for and they either won or got placed every time they went out competing but it wasn't enough to keep her interested.
They either want to do it or they don't.
Stick to your guns and re-home the horse if you think it's for the best.
I did !!

I work at a charity run riding school where 15 year old girls will help out, and lead ponies in the arena all day just for the possibility of a free ride! It would be incomprehensible to them that there is someone out there who gets all the work done for them and they don't really want to do it.

*Puts up hand* Me, me! Well, a few years ago now (I did it from 12 - 14) but I was up every Sunday before 7, down at the yard to bring in at half 7, worked through the day leading, grooming, tacking up, general riding school skivvy, got one one hour lesson a week that I had to pay for and then every other week I got a half hour ride on a school horse at the end of the day if there was enough time (which there rarely was!). Bloody hard work but I loved every second of it and still love doing yard work, just to be around horses.

My only motivation was that I got to spend the day playing ponies!

My 15 year old started losing interest in her ponies. I turned them away thinking she would start riding them again and it was just a phase she was going through. One year on, we still have them and I wish I had sold them when she first started losing interest. We have struggled to bring them back into work and keep them in work so they can be sold. Anyone want to buy a 14.2hh???
