All UK flights grounded

lol tell me about it!
Got the boss and several colleageaus stranded in Glasgow, got the daughter and 2 mates stranded in Newcastle. The boss is easier because he can afford a train

Well, apparently it is sunny in Glasgow at the moment. They're saying that the dust cloud is 5km up soI don't know if we will be able to see it from the ground or not (not too informed about these things) but I am told we should have a fab sunset this evening.

My daughter is frantic because she's away from her horse who has a punctured sole and the YO is looking after the treatment and I am mucking out (with help from other liveries) but it's not the same as being there herself! My daughter is somewhat overprotective of the horse!

If anyone can see ash, it'd be those in North Scotland, they've just had someone from the air pollution agency on the tele box, those with breathing difficulties need to take care - maybe staying inside with all the windows shut.

My 17 year old daughter is on her first 'foreign' trip away from home. Has gone with 5 friends from her French class to practice their French (or so they say). Flight delayed 2 hours on the way there on Tuesday and due back this evening at 6pm......

Its overcast here and I'm trying to get my boss a flight back from Mumbai. He's due back early hours tomorrow and they won't say if the flight's going or not, and all other flights are full over the weekend

The ash is deadly if breathed in so even in tiny amounts i expect is can be irritating and harmful to those with breathing problems!

Id like to see it though, sounds amazing!

Just watched the news with interviews from stranded passengers at UK airports. Now would'nt you think people would be just a tad glad their safety is being put first and foremost. Two interviewed (diff airports) both mother's with children in tow griped because they were missing out on their holiday and why should a bit of dust affect the flights !!! Believe me I spend enough time in airports and hate as much as anyone delays but I am ALWAYS glad that safety first is usually paramount.

Cefyl our transatlantic plane was grounded four years ago (today, weirdly!!!) and grown men were screaming abuse at the female flight attendants.

I retorted loudly "Yeah, tell the pilot to keep going and we can all die in the crash or drown in the sea, as long as we don't stop and find out what's gone wrong." and that soon shut them up.
We were the ones trying to get home for a dying relative!

I also spend a lot of time stuck at airports, I am a bit of a stressyhead but I really don't see how shouting, screaming and moaning will ever achieve anything or make the situation better. Makes much better news programming, I suppose....

On the BBC earlier they talked to the pilot of the jumbo that went through a volanic cloud in the 80's, although they managed to get all 4 engines restarted the were so badly damaged they were scrapped!

British Airspace is closed incoming and outgoing and is not likely to re-open until 6am tomorrow. The only flights will be emergency flights, which I take to mean Military.

Your boss will just have to be patient lol!

Having spoken to him he's resigned to not flying back tonight but I have a feeling he'll be at the terminal first thing tomorrow. There is a flight back via Munich Friday night but if the clouds over Germany by then he's stuck there!

Wahey!! HHO all day long then! :D :D :D

Update on my daughter and friends in France, due back this evening...
Easyjet have guaranteed them a return flight on Monday, which is marginally better than Wednesday, which is what they originally offered.
They were all really worried, but feeling better now that Easyjet have put them up in a hotel with a swimming pool, all expenses paid until they can get home. How's that for good customer service! Wish I had been delayed in Nice today!

You may well go eek!:eek:The jumbo lost all four engines out over the pacific. It glided for about 25/30 minutes ,all the time the crew kept trying to restart an engine. They had got down to about 250 feetand were about to ditch when one engine lit up. One engine could not make the aircraft climb sothey flogged the a+++ off that engine for about another half hour and gradually got the remaining engines restarted. They climbed ,and then shut down one engine as it was rattling like a tin can. Best bit of flying I have ever heard about.

My friend has just text me, her flights got messed up by Easyjet yesterday so she had to wait an extra day, except now her flights are cancelled because of the Volcanic Ash and even if they were re-instated tomorrow there are no more flights home until the end of NEXT WEEK!! Ooops!
There is also a train strike on, so they have no way of getting home.

My daughter is stuck in Iceland itself, on a geography trip - eek! Already had an 18 hour coach ride detour as the road to the airport had to be dug up due to the glacier melting, meant to be home tonight and now in nice hotel - and she's the only one with money left. They were all told to take a maximum of £100 but she missed that bit (always on her own planet) so told her naive father that the others were taking £200 as Iceland is so expensive.

Bet she's popular tonight!

Friends of ours were supposed to be flying today to Thailand to get married next week. Hope they can get out tomorrow and still have enough time.
