This is Alwin, we have four GSPs in total - both of this boys parents. His mum is Irish bred mainly and his dad is Scottish. Our other dog is from Croatian and Italian lines.

I just love this picture so thought I would share

All ours are workers Clodagh except Alwin's mummy who is now retired although she still goes for walks at the shooting ground and finds bird's the boys have missed. She's much more cunning and patient than they are

And yes, they really fantastic to watch, seeing them on point still amazes me

My cousin has had a couple of show ones through a pointer rehoming place and even they pointed. Fantastic! We have a GSP and a GWP on our shoot but sadly they are wild, they howl and if allowed near a bird they eat it. A man who I pick up with on another shoot works two dogs, they are fantastic but sadly dog aggressive so I only ever see them from across the field.

Oh he is absolutely gorgeous, what a fabulous photo.

This is Eira the Westie monitoring the situation this morning (which is her main job):

Ahh that's a real shame Clodagh- non of ours are aggressive, quite the opposite, big softies. Neither would they eat the birds! That's pretty bad.

Ludo has brought me a live but poorly week and a very small live baby bunny

Wheels, I just love this breed, they are so handsome. I have a question if i may? I have looked at them as a match for my Weimaraner in a couple of years, they seem similar in height and build but perhaps slightly calmer and easier to train? i would like something as athletic as a Weim as i love high energy dogs and i keep coming back to this breed above all others but i don't know anybody with one to ask what they are really like. My Weim is from pure chasse lines so i'd look for the same type again i think

Hi Shady - I don't really know any weims so it's hard for me to compare.

I am sure it is like any breed in that different lines have different traits. They do have a reputation for being an out and out hunting dog when they are in the field and a family pey in the house and ours certainly are like that. They are also known to need quite a soft hand when training, they are sensitive and can get quite introverted if they are told off too harshly. Again ours are like that except the bitch who just takes it on the chin and then goes and does what she wants anyway lol although I am sure she would not like some harsh training methods I've seen some other people use on their dogs.

Athletic they most certainly are, they love running and jumping and need lots of space to have a good blast but not necessarily hours of work to tire them out. Fairly easy to train I would say and they enjoy working.

Each of ours have a different temperament although Alwin is most like his dad, the two of them would rather not meet other people or dogs, they are not aggressive but would just rather stay away and will growl if others get too close. The bitch is one of those calming dogs that can diffuse situations between other dogs, she is aloof, all other dogs want to be her friend and she is always polite and has a little play but she is totally her own wee person and she is usually on some scent or other so toddles off after a few minutes.

The other male who is not related is the friendliest dog I've ever met. He has the x factor - brilliant hunter, very very athletic, big and muscular physique - I wish I could clone him.

A pile of spaniels.

I love GSPs, I’m very tempted for next time, but I heard they were harder than springers? I want an apricot standard poodle too, would be a great pair! :biggrin3:

Stunning. I have no idea how to post pics any more..

I do love a GSP and that's a great picture of Alwin
Daisy is gorgeous!
Ooh Dab-Dab I didn't know there was another Westie on HHO, do feel free to add more Westie pics :D
KITT, Loki must be worried as only 2 cats in view
Luna and Lacey are both extremely pretty
No better pile than a pile of spaniels.

This is my fave pic of Suzie and Woolfie, I've shared it before but it always makes me smile.

Thanks Wheels :) , he really is magnificent , they actually sound very similar to a Weim especially regarding training, my new one literally shrivels up in front of you if a harsh word is said to him but the last one didn't give a stuff and did exactly what he wanted at all times, lol. Last one was very loving but aggressive with strange dogs but this one is more submissive with dogs, easier to train, very smart but has the higher prey instinct. They are very funny, loyal dogs though and talk back all the time which i love. It does sound as if it could be a good match but finding a good breeder here will prove difficult.......... sigh

Beautiful dog Wheels & a great photo - i love the out of focus horse in the background. GSP's are amazing dogs, i have 3 purebreds & two part breds, who make up a sled dog team (GSP's are really making their name in canisports). Would you mind me asking who your dogs sire is? xx

That sounds like great craic! Not sure I'd trust my lot to keep going in the direction I wanted them to though lol

Alwin's dad is called Scolboa Jonny Boy - he has only sired one litter and that is the one we bred, born July 2016. He is from Castlepoint lines who hail back to the Midlander dogs.

Where are you shady?

I am loving the pics on this thread- aren't dogs just wonderful?

I'm in South West France Wheels and buying any animal here is frustrating bordering on depressing. Most of the French just don't get it that breeding healthy animals is a good idea and most are non papered with dubious history. There will be a few though with enough passion for the breed to get it right so i will just have to travel further which is ok. My Weim came from a lovely vet in the maddest, remotest place i have ever been to so i' sure i will find a GSP somewhere equally as bizarre !

I can't do photo's but i also love looking at everybody's dogs :)

I do follow a French breeder on Facebook who always has some super looking dogs. I can't for the life of me think what they are called but next time they pop up on my timeline I'll link you up. Not sure where in France they are though.

Many people now import dogs and being mainland Europe I'm sure you will find a good one.

The dog I pictured on the previous page was bred in Scotland but his breeder collected his sire from Croatia and his dam from Italy on a mammoth road trip so dogs do get moved some distance

That would be really great Wheels, thank you. I imagine they might be further North as this is boar country so lots of hounds( i have one which i totally adore) but very few gun dogs. I have seen a couple of GSP litters pop up un papered but they just didn't look right to me and there is a massive breeder of them further up who has about 10 different hunting breeds including Weims and has about 6 or 7 bitches for each breed. It's a huge concern which i would avoid like the plague as it is just one step up from a puppy farm and they are churning them out as fast as they can at top prices then reducing them if they don't sell by 4 months , unfortunately many pups for sale originate from there.
