I am rapidly approaching 40 and for all my horse career have SJ. I have a homebred horse of my own that loves to event. Due to circumstances this year he has had no rider, as he is terrifyingly strong xc but never ever stops, and has never been out of the top 6 since he started two years ago. He has a few points left in Novice (3).

The point being is xc terrifys me I sj very happily 1.30 and so does he being nearly Grade A but he loves his eventing more. Is there anyway I can get my confidence with him to XC or should I just resign him to SJ for the rest of his days, which he does but not with the love that he has solid fences. Am I to old to learn a new job, or any riders that need a good horse, but where he will be treated like a king not a robot or worse as the last yard called him the diesel horse, and he would go everywhere for anything as he would cover the costs for the day out.

I'm sure there would a be a young rider near you who'd jump at the chance of a ride on something like him.

I had an extremely strong horse and sometimes it was downright dangerous on the xc but you put up with them because they are so dependable.
PM me, I may know someone who's interested!

i think i'd sort out his bitting, as a terrifyingly strong horse xc is dangerous imo. fwiw, i know of a top top horse who was known for this, just had its teeth done really properly for the first time in its life, and now can be ridden xc in a snaffle...
there are plenty of people who would love the ride on a horse as good as yours, i think. i'd be in the queue...!

why dont you take him to a more experience event riderand let them have a sit, with a view to advising you. we cant see you or the horse and as kerilli says it might be something ovvious like teeth. i would suggest a lady rider as thhey will have more empathy with your problem. Ants McKeowen is particularly good with problems xc, teaches well and wont rob you. she is in andover PM me if you want number.

I will ride it! although i am in northern ireland...

sounds like a dream horse! lol why don't you start off doing some unaffiliated and work up to BE? or you could go xc schooling and just keep him happy at that and sj at the weekends?

Thank you for your replies, have PMd you Bossonova. He has been ridden by event riders, and they love him, Sorrel Warrick really likes him and says although he is very strong xc he does listen and is just loving his job but using his head.

I will have his teeth checked again, thank you although to hack, dressage SJ etc he is very very light he just lights up xc and loves it, he also does have the ability to be very clever and bags of scope, he has bounced many doubles but you need to be a brave rider, which I just dont think I can be xc.

I will certainly get his bit and teeth looked out and also his back etc checked to see if there is any physical reason for this, if not I will either have to let him go to a good rider and home (being first priority as I bred him) or just get brave somehow.
