The Nez Perce tribe have started a breeding program using A T stallions with Western Appaloosa mares in an effort to resurect the Nez Perce horses which were either shot or cross bred with draught horses after the tribes defeat by the US Cavalry, and the tribes failure to escape to Canada led by Chief Joseph. The US Military saw the horses of the Nez Perce as their major asset in warfare, so destroyed many following Chief Joseph's surrender. The current breeding programe hopes to recapture the quality of those lost horses.
