Who doesn't have a tonne of horse stuff?

I used to be queen of matchy matchy with my old pony....but with BC, my entire possessions now are a cooler, show rug and hoody, 2 headcollars and leadropes, grooming kit, one bridle, one old training harness and a first aid kit.....

:o

And I don't actually have a need for anything else.... I feel like I'm on budget, which I'm not, but I just have lost the urge to spend now as I end up hovering over 'pay now', then think I actually do not need anything.

Fail :p

Give it till next year when he's broken and going I suppose! Then the matching numnah sets will just HAVE to appear I guess.

I have the bare minimum which considering I have owned horses since 1979  is quite surprising. I cannot bear loads of 'stuff'. Having said I still have the rugs for my two lovely old boys (now RIP) and their saddles *sniff* as I just can't part with them. My next horse will have to fit their stuff, a bit like Cinderella and the glass slipper :D

I will admit to being drawn in to this matchy matchy stuff though although I tend to have robust horses that can't be doing with bandages and blingy head furniture.

Nope, you are not alone.;):)

I used to have rugs, and gadgets, and bits, and boots, and everything else collected over 25 years, then I moved, sold, gave or threw away literally everything.

When I started collecting horses again I found that I didn't actually need a lot, none need boots or gadgets. All mine share everything, if it fits they wear it. I have accumulated quite a lot of blankets because the foals will insist on growing!

I have discovered that I can't get away with it all the time though, breed specific items are expensive. I foolishly decided to do the showing thing with a Paso Fino and it has cost me more in registration and membership fees, tack, and the showing outfit than the damn horse did to buy in the first place :(

Last year I had a load of stuff nicked...after it had gone, I realied I used about 5% of it and the thieving twonks had actually done me a favour...I now have space in my lock up and only have what I actually need.

I used to have matchy matchy rugs n headcollars etc when I was on livery....now I have my own place I don't have any standards to keep:p so I have tatty old headcollars, nothing matches.....does it make any difference? None whatsoever.

We don't. Like hippona said when you keep them at home it doesnt matter that your headcollar is faded and tatty.

My daughter got her new horse 13 months ago and he fitted most of her old girls stuff, my new lad currently fits most of my retired girls stuff, handy as his saddle had to be made to measure and is constantly being altered. We are about to have another sort out and ebay-athon so if he is lucky he may get a more suitable cob like bridle.

We don't do bling, or boots, or matchy matchy and I now wait until something wears out before I replace it. I try to buy good quality 2nd hand if possible.

My top tip for preventing uneccessary horse stuff purchases is not to go to the tack shop and put the robinsons/rideaway catalogues in the recycle bin as soon as they arrive.

Nope, not the only one! I had a mahoooosive clear out last year after I lost ebony, I still have a ton of old rugs but am donating these to a local charity. I'm now putting things right though and buying a truck load for my trusty steed so he feels speshul :p

I have a lot of stuff but do tend to weed out things I know I'm not going to use again quite often. I like having a good ebay selling session ;)

I don't have any matchy matchy though, partly through lack of funds and partly because I'm really fussy about the things I use. Most of the things I've come to prefer don't come in pretty colours!

No you are not alone! I am also a bare minimum person. I do like a bit of matchymatchy but I am mostly unmatchy...

Having a growing youngster soon sorts out a rug addict... I love the HW liner system, he has two turnouts and I can do the whole range of warmth with mix and matching a liner - love it
