Am i the only person in the world who doesn't like coloured horses????

Sorry but very very few of them appeal to me...... am I alone?

OH told me when looking to buy that under no circumstances was I to come back with a cow!!!

I am probably just old fashioned but I remember when you could not sell them for love let alone money, and now they command the most ridiculous prices in the world... even when they look horrid..... like all white with black ears or something!

Mind you I'm not too keen on chestnuts either!!!!

Not going to make any friends tonight am I???
 
I think that we all have some kind of colour aversion. Mine personally is palomino. However, no good horse is a bad colour........................
 
I used to feel exactly the same and promised myself I would never own a coloured!
Then due to unexpected circumstances Sid came into our lives and now I think they're great.
Saying that if I was ever horse hunting again I don't think I'd go out specifically to find a coloured. It's like that old saying a good horse is never a bad colour!
 
LMAO! Well, based on their sig I'd guess at least one person is right behind you!

Must say I wouldn't go looking for a coloured horse, although there are some v nice ones out there.

But then I have a very orange chestnut so....

I don't dislike coloureds but I don't think there's anything special about them, I think they're over-rated and wouldn't buy a horse or pay more for it just because of its colour. I love chestnuts though.

I agree that a good horse is never a bad colour.
 
They're not my prefered choice but if I was buying a horse & a coloured came along that ticked every box, I wouldn't say no.

Biggest aversion I have is for cremellos
 
I like them because they're different, but I wouldn't only buy a coloured. I bought Chex when they were unpopular and seldom seen at shows etc, now they seem to be everywhere! Some are nicer than others, and of course I think Chex is nice

lol.... yes can remember those days!!! anything coloured was a cow...Grandfather said gypo horses.. i have myself on video this year delivering a coloured.. very difficult birth nearly lost her... and when delivered i said we have a cow!!! love her to bits... she is from the most relaxed mare by a super stallion but couldn't help myself!!! she is as bold as brass... never know a foal like it... we had 6 children at the birth... 6 handling her at birth... she whinnies at the kids a greeting... canters over... loves and plays... is a complete joy!!
BUT...... he father is by Spitfire with a tiny little coloured blood... thats all I could let myself do!!
BUT...... get the breeding right and hopefully the colour pattern and you have a superb horse....
GOD listen to me... we have "common" cobs here too!!! AND THEY GIVE THEIR ALL!! they can be the best partners for life!!
 
Probably not!

I am not fussed about the colour but do like a little quality in a horse so wouldn't choose to buy a really heavy coloured cob..all that hair is just a bit too much to cope with, but on colour grounds alone I wouln't discount any horse

Me. I am not mad about them, probably because I grew up having riding lessons on kick-along ploddy coloured cobs who were no fun at all to ride. I think it has prejudiced me enormously against coloured horses of any type, which is really quite silly, as there are some incredible ones out there.
 
I love my coloured boy (except when he sleeps in his poo on his white bits). I got him as a foal when coloureds werent that popular.

I would love a nicely marked Knappstrupper (sp?) next.

Saying that I do think some of the prices just cos they are coloured are really stupid.
 
Glad I have not been shot down as some sort of horse racist!!!

Yes I dont like roans or cremellos either, or greys, but i do like to look at greys just wouldnt want to keep one clean. I do have a soft spot for palominos and would deffo buy one of them if they fitted all the other slots!!

Theresa and chex's horses are nice, black tails are a big must as well as plenty of black.

As a kid I always wanted a black horse with four whites and a blaze...... and I got him

I didn't buy Daisy because she was coloured but I do think they can be beautiful. the only down side is that when I fancy having a sneaky canter across paths that aren't strictly bridlepaths I think that I'd be really easy to identify. Especially when i hack out with my friend on their coloured.

Its not so much about having a thing for coloured but liking unusual or striking colouring. I find bay really boring *ducks and hides*
 
Merlinsquest - I'm with you on this one!!

Greys are nice to look at if someone else has to clean them up! And coloureds with white tails are a no-no as they always seem to have the squits in them!
 
I have to admitt, before Lottie i said i would never have one and i didn't even want to go and see Lottie because she was coloured (wrong i know) but my instructor told me i had to as she sounded perfect for me, It was love at first sight & she was perfect

I don't really like coloureds, unless they're an unusual colour (roan ect) or have very little white on them (just a splash across the withers or on the belly).

But then, I hated greys, and we ended up with one! And I wasn't a fan of appaloosas, either... Still, I always love unusual looking horses (a.k.a misfits) and am proud to own one!

Same here. A dark bay with dapples and no white markings... -dreams- We ended up with a grey (skewbald when turned out) an appaloosa and a dun!

Apart from Dark bay, I'd say dark dun is my favourite colour. I'm not too fond of those bright yellow ones though, unless they're finely built (arab or TB type).
 
You are not alone, I am not a fan of them, and would never own them, no matter how good they were or the price. I was offered to go look at a young horse, suitable for eventing, but when I heard that he was coloured I wasn't interested.
 
I don't really care what colour they are at all! As long as they are good at their job and aren't too horrendously ugly then thats good enough for me!

I always like the colour I have at the time though - now I'm into greys, although I would find a light grey or a coloured hard work - all that poo stain scrubbing!

Well i was never keen on coloureds and when I was looking for horses favoured dark bays and blacks...however I can't speak as three out of the four horses I've own/loaned have been coloured

I am sure you have plenty of company in that opinion.

It's a case of "Handsome is as handsome does" isn't it? No good horse is a bad colour and all that.....but we are all entitled to our opinions, same as with breeds I guess.

I have always had solid coloureds before, except for a spotty, but I don't count them as coloured, whole different ball game those....I am not keen on Leopard spots but like snowflake and blanket (but only on roans)

I, personally am not a huge fan of the bright chestnut colour, but for some reason I have three oranges out in the paddock

One of them is also a coloured, with a white face and blue eyes so she ticks the I hate white faces/Blue eyes boxes too, she also looks like a hereford cow, but is quite sweet anyway. I wouldn't choose a bay either, yet I have one of those too. I like palominos and greys, the whiter the better....odd person that I am,
