Am I too big? (follow on with photos)

Thats got to be the smallest 16hh if you are 5'8''!! ;-)
I am 5'11'' and this is me on a very very light build 15.1hh (recently out of racing) -

I think in your case also if you let your stirrups down to a "normal" length rather than trying to hitch them up to look smaller you will look much more in proportion and balanced and the picture will look much better!

Totally agree if that horse is 16hh, then i'm a dutchman (which i'm not!!).

I have a 16.3hh British Hanoverian and i am 5'5 and i look tiny on her!

Falling off a small horse hurts less than falling off a big horse. ;) :D

She looks lovely and you look fine on her. If you like her then buy her, if you have doubts (other than her height), then keep looking.

Sorrrrry everyone! I've ridden mainly 17hh+ and this is the first 16hh I've ridden in a long time so I've got used to looking small on a horse and when i showed my friend she said I looked rather too tall (long back!!) for the horse.

I do agree with your friend there, you do look rather long backed for the horse, its not your leg length thats the issue, it is your back length (sorry). And yes i would put her at around 15.2 to 15.3hh as i have one horse that 16.3hh and one horse of 15.2hh. I was always taught that it wasnt the length of your legs, but the length of your back that denoted whether you were too big or too small for a horse, as the taller you sat above a horse, the more of a possible leverage you created. Sorry, again!!

Yes,you look long in the body(which I am too:)) and that's why you look too big. She can take your leg length up but still don't think she's 16hh. Borrow a measuring stick. If she is,consider my hat eaten.;)

I'm the opposite of Achinghips. Downgraded from 16.3 fairly wide WB to 15.2 mid width wB - best thing I did. He feels tiny but no aching hips! But I am 5ft3in.

Actually mandyroberts I downgraded too - to 16.1hh. My aching hips are due to the fact I'm of a more mature ilk!! :D

OP I think others are probably right, she does seem to look a little bit smaller than the height you have been told, however, it is very hard to tell accurately from photos:).

You don't look too big at all but if she is 16hh I am the pope. ;)

I am 5ft 8 and my mare is 15hh but a wide quarter horse. Hubby's mare is the same height (they are sisters) and he is 6ft 4. I have a photo somewhere of him on a 15.2 QH and he looked fine on her. :)

The important thing is whether or not you feel comfortable. I have felt too tall in the past and it isn't a comfortable feeling! You certainly aren't too heavy. :)

I know how you feel. I'm 5'10" and went down from a 17.2 sports horse to a fairly fine TBx and posted on here asking if I was too big. I got it in my head she was about 15.2 but turns out she's 16.1 and it just took me a while to adjust. It helped that she's a big moving horse, which a Hanoverian probably is too...?

You look fine, just drop the stirrups ten holes :-P Im 6foot and ride anything from a 14hh pony to 17.2hh monster and everything between and would pick the ponies every time. So long as you feel comfy on her :-)
