Can some please tell me what these rugs are like? I put an order in at Hope Valley this morning for 2 lw shire rugs & just had a call to say they have none in stock & won't be getting anymore in, but for the inconvenience they have afford me the Amigo light for the same price etc. I have said I will call tomorrow to let them no whether I want the Amigo as 1 of the rugs was for my mum. I am abit worried that they won't fit my boys round the front as they are very wide so wondere dif someone could tell me if what they are like. I already have the shires lite for one of mine & love the rug thats why I ideally wanted the same

What denier are they? If it's a 600d I would leave well alone, they are shower proof but that's about all!

The 1200d on the over hand are great rugs :)

I love the fit of my amigo lw. I'm not sure if you can see my boy in sig as I'm on my phone but he is a pretty wide maxi cob with big shoulders. I am onto my second one for him after my last one was stolen from an old yard :( and didn consider any other type. For value I don't think you can beat it, he has killed a fair few rugs and this is still going after about 3/4 years.

We use Amigos on american quarter horses, some of which are very wide in front and they fit really well.
If the rugs are Amigo 600/Hero 6 they are the lighterweight ones in the range, no fill, and are not the most robust - although they have lasted very well for my mare (oldest one is 5yrs old) not sure I'd trust my thug of a youngster in one!
they used to do a 1200 but I'm not sure its in the new lightweight range. If they are Amigo mio that's their 'cheap and cheerful' range.

I have 4 amigo rugs for Jay, the 6'6 are a little snug but the 6'9 fit him great, hes a idxtb MW.

100% brilliant fit for the bigger shouldered horse. My 17.2hh show jumper had enormous shoulders and very deep girth. In fact the only rugs that fitted him were horseware.

I never bought anything else after finding them!

Dave has had one of these for 3/4 years....yes it's showerproof and not much else but is a brilliant wee rug. Several at the yard have them, they seem to be very durable - withstand the terrier-like rug-yanking antics of the resident Welsh A very well indeed!

Amigo rugs are our "go to" as they seem to fit every shape & size really nicely. All ours have a LW & MW each, and they've lasted forever - we have one of the original lightweights which is years old and still fine! I've found the 600d rugs to actually be quite waterproof, though people do say the 1200d is a lot better - not sure if they do that in the L/W rug though, I haven't managed to stumble across one yet.

They fit my tb very well, although have bought him 6 in the past 3 years as they get ripped very easily by my other horse! Although they are only 600 denier! I'v bought them as a quick fix only though, for when they've been ripped and need another lw quick and my local tack shop has always got them in stock!! I do have a lw 1200 amigo for him that is much tougher and lasted a few years, dont see many about though. I don't find them that waterproof either, okay for light showers. They don't fit my idx at all though, he's very wide on the chest and has huge shoulders! I get most of his rugs from the big horse shop. Horseware do an xl range though which I'm going to try for him.

My filly in my sig is wearing a 6'6" Amigo lightweight, she also has a medium stable and T/O and a heavyweight T/O too. :D I love the Amigos and agree they seem to fit every shape and size.

I love my Amigo rugs and have used my light weight more than ever with the mild weather we've been having. I have a 15hh mw cob (connie type) and I usually find that a size up from what is normally suggested for his height fits the best..if that makes any sense.

Hmmm- might get on to hope valley and order a spare.... mine has a couple of rips on the back end from some vigorous horse play...

I used to use nothing but Horseware rugs until someone gave me a Shires turnout. Now I only use Shires. They are a much better fit around the shoulder. Have you tried Google to see if you can get what you want from another online retailer?

The Amigo is a good rug but you will definitely have to go up a size.

Agree with this - definitely need to go up a size for Horseware, and another vote for Shires!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have decided I am going to stick to what I know & get the Shires from somewhere else.
