Just chiming in to say that my horse woumd do anything for a banana! He also loves lemons, tangerines and melons.
I have always secretly wanted a horse that eats bananas, or any vaguely exotic foods,
Banana??? Now I’m going to have to try feeding my horse one.
A friend of mine feeds her two a banana every morning so tried all six of mine, not one of them would even try it. Sniffed and ignored but the saying that I have never tasted a banana as I can't stand the smell.
I do think for most if they only require a 'low energy mix' all they really need is a decent vit/min supplement and something to put it in.
loads of commercial feeds are unsuitable for horses imho, never mind ones who are extra sensitive like metabolic or ulcer prone...full of fillers, sugar and rubbish.
feed as simple as possible imho
I've got a walking sicknote available who loves grapes if you're interested?
You'll need to love vet bills too though
Totally agree. Never ceases to amaze me how many people don't read the ingredients and feed their animals utter sh1 te.
tbh I dont think natives even need that if on varied grazing. mine are getting nothing this winter save some soaked cobs if we get a prolonged cold/snowy snap to help keep them hydrated-and a bit of hay. They are on unimproved pasture and their feet are brilliant right now on nothing other than that and a salt lick.
