Just a few (!!) photos of him to share. We’ve had such a fun spring/summer/autumn, I started off at best hoping to go around the odd 70 or so but enjoy watching him bought on and produced by his rider. Well he was faultless xc from day one, could never even be called green in that phase and gave me so much confidence to take the reins over myself. He’s not had a single xc stop all season, our (well my) SJ still needs some work as I seem to get the most nervous here. I’ve left every event with a massive grin regardless of whether we had a rosette in the lorry or not, because he’s always given me a superb ride. We have had a LOT of help, from friends and instructors and Be Positive who kindly came to give me a much needed kick up the arse at one event 😄
It’s ironic that the horse I thought was too much for me, too sharp/hot/young etc has actually been building my confidence back up all year without me even realising it. We’ve done everything from beach rides to a long weekend hacking holiday, showjumping, dressage, XC. He’s been hunting drag/trail and been superb, he hacks (but gives me a stitch from his bouncy jolly walk!), travels like a total pro etc. I didn’t think he’d ever be the type of horse I could have “fun†on, I thought he’d very much be a competition only horse but he’s proved me wrong again and whilst he’s a hair raising ride at times with his over enthusiasm I feel very safe on him, most of the time! It hasn’t been easy, I have to say I have really disliked and resented him at times- comparing him to Basil and wishing beyond belief that I had my horse of a lifetime back. When I finally stopped moping and focussed on what I DID have in the stable it gave me a much better mindset and things got much better from there- with the odd wobble.
For those interested in his hoofy issues, he had some x rays retaken last week which show a very decent HPA, no longer broken forward. DabDab- think you were right
.
Yesterday we finished at Elmwood 90 ht, I got us a technical elimination for jumping fence 8 before fence 5 (when will I learn...) but he was awesome, once eliminated we just schooled around the rest- I was incredibly nervous and had been tears at that yard that morning but felt I needed to finish the season on a 90 to prove I could still do it. And of course Boggle totally looked after me and had it all in hand! He is incredibly fit at the moment, too fit actually and is really bursting out of his skin with energy. Hoping he will lose a little over winter!
Enough blabbing, here’s some photos/videos 😄
